When greenhorns first grace our fine town of Gomorra, they often want to show others what they’re made of, and start tusslin’. Of course they also want all their buddies to have their back when they’re slapping leather. However, be careful about bringing all your Influential Dudes in with you, or you’re liable to find yourself on your way out of town in a pine box quicker than you can spit.

Remember that your Influence is what prevents your opponent from taking control of town and winning the game. If all your Influence joins a posse during a Shootout and gets gunned down, you’ve reduced the amount of Control points your opponent needs to win the game. So protect that Influence, it’ll help keep you in the game!

One of the biggest points of confusion in this game is how to move your Dudes around town. Here it is simply:

“Boot your Dude to move to any location.”

There are two exceptions to this rule:

– A Dude does not Boot when moving from their Home to an adjacent location (including Town Square).

– A Dude does not Boot when moving from Town Square to any adjacent location except back to his/her Home (all In-town Deeds are considered adjacent to Town Square).

Hope this clears up the confusion about moesyin’ around town.

Make sure you’re using Air Strikes to target specific buildings that are assisting opponents. Focus air strikes on the one or two buildings that are the target’s most efficient, such as highly efficient yellowcake mines, uranium enrichment plants, or plutonium reactors. The more damage you can pile on just one or two buildings, the more expensive it will be for your opponent to repair, if he repairs it at all.

If you are only going to be able to complete one or two low value quests in the final turn, it may be better to stock up on adventurers and coin and just hold on to them for final point scoring. It will depend on the quests you have at the end, but don’t waste your adventurers needlessly for a weak quest in the final turn.

When using the Raider’s Outpost, don’t be afraid to steal an opponent’s Holographic Decoy. First, it now offers you added protection from the Raider’s Outpost. Second, it makes that player vunerable again to the Outpost.

If the Corp has a lot of unrezzed Ice in play and just a moderate amount of cash, start running, and run often. It doesn’t matter if you get through, you want to force him/her to spend credits to activate Ice. This is cash they’re not putting towards advancements or rezzing other useful assets.

You can learn much about the Corp from what Ice is activated and not activated. Unactivated Ice may be too expensive to rez (though it may lead into a Trap as well). The Corp may not feel a server is not particularly worth defending if they don’t rez, so it may not be worth your time going after in later runs. Even if you don’t get through, you now know the Ice you’re facing for subsequent runs and can better prepare for them.

Sick and tired of always seeing the Assassin or the Dark Cultist ruining a game of Talisman? Here’s a house rule we use when choosing characters to remove some of the more overly powerful characters from repeated play:

1. Everyone randomly receives four character cards.
2. Each player chooses one of the characters to be removed from the game.
3. The remaining characters are passed to the player on the left.
4. Each player chooses a character from the remaining cards passed to them.

After losing a battle and having only one or two units remaining in your troop, many times it’s better to recall your remaining units, regain some Prayer Points, and recruit a new full troop back in your city. One or two unit troops, even with a creature, are juicy targets for players hunting for easy permanent Battle VPs. Don’t give them the opportunity!

Make sure to get a creature or two from the Power tiles. They can drastically swing a battle, get your troop extra movement, and the minis are gorgeous to boot!

Kemet gives the lowest VP player the opportunity to set the initiative order for the turn. If it is late in the game and you’re the lowest on VPs, it’s a good idea to place the leaders first in initiative so you’re better able to react to their actions, and possibly steal a couple VPs with the final action and win the game.

Money is tight in this game. Getting a factory or two for your player board that can earn you money can really help your cashflow. Also be aware of the cost of loading bombs on your bombers. Those extra 5 points can really add up quickly, and not having enough cash to pay for them can hurt in the long run.

There have been some good-looking RPG projects in the past couple weeks. I’m in right now on 7th Sea 2nd Edition, and am considering doubling down on the limited edition version. There’s also Pinnacle’s Savage World Wierd War I setting, the new Conan RPG, and a new version of Kult.

Giving a shout out for Wombat Rescue. Got a chance to play the prototype with designer Matt Wolfe last night, and it’s a really clever light strategy game. The art is terrific, and it has a unique theme. And you get to indulge your inner 5-year-old all game long making poop jokes without the slightest regret 🙂

And wombats really do poop cubes!
