I’m going to the ProtoSpiel at Game Kastle (San Jose, CA), so my weekend will be filled with prototype play.

The O.N.U.W. tournament was 6 rounds, where each round featured variations of the included roles. The scoring for each player wasn’t described in detail, only that winning with certain roles was worth more points because of their difficulty.

At the end of each round, players would randomly be assigned to a new table.

Went to the FLGS to play in a One Night Ultimate Werewolf tournament, along with introducing Scalawag! to some new players.

Play testing the 2 player addition and new Bonus Crew cards for the upcoming Scalawag! expansion.

I’ll be at DunDraCon (San Ramon, CA) this weekend, playing various games and introducing players to Scalawag! and What the Food?! in the open gaming area.

Likewise, my friends from Squirmy Beast Games will be at OrcCon (Los Angeles, CA) running these games as well.

@Account Deletion – Enjoy Disneyland with your son! I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Disneyland a few times with friends taking their children there for the first time. It brings back the magic of the world as seen through their eyes.

I’ll be continuing with our Risk: Legacy campaign, get in some Scalawag!, and possibly more Space Cadets: Dice Duel.

I originally had a resistance to picking up a copy of Risk: Legacy for the same reason you mention. After recently starting a campaign with friends, I highly recommend grabbing a copy and giving it a try.

The permanent changes to the game go beyond gimmick. This design concept does two things wonderfully; it actually transforms from something familiar into a new game by unlocking changes to the rules over time, as well as providing a visual record of the groups’ game sessions when placing scar stickers on the board.

I am very impressed with the multiple engagement triggers this game employs through smart design.

@cody.raak – The numbers listed on the ship mats are the cost in CP to Close & Board that ship. As a ship takes damage, the cost in CP to board it lowers.

Picked up a copy of Myth yesterday and read through the rules. I found the Realm Tile selection method interesting, as the player group builds out their path based on what they are seeking at that moment (start a Chapter Quest, need a Merchant, hunting for the most Treasure).

A good mix of free form adventure choice vs. scripted story sequences.

The price is a bit higher for a few reasons. Primarily is that this edition of Scalawag! had a small print run (approx. 1600) which drives up the cost per unit (CPU) as compared to a larger run of 5K+ (affecting both the printing CPU as well as the art CPU). It also includes more components (48 cards, 8 player mats, a die, 120 tokens) than some of the small games it might be compared to. The final CPU including shipping from China to the USA was $13.59 (which would normally suggest a retail price of ~$70).

Ultimately, the value comes from a player’s enjoyment of the game play and the physical components; both of which I set a high quality bar for. I believe Scalawag! succeeded in delivering on both accounts.
