This weekend my wife & I played in the Magic: The Gathering Born of the Gods prerelease event at our local MTG shop. Also played King of Tokyo & Beat The Parents with the kiddos.
So, my boys have become addicted to Scotland Yard. I have to say that playing with my family has reawakened my appreciation for this simple deduction game. It’s easy for just about anyone to play, and the cooperative element lends itself to introducing non-gamers to gaming. It’s always nice to reunite with old friends.
A little late… but I had an unbelievable game of Krosmaster: Arena. Over 2 hours of back-and-forth battling, with the outcome uncertain until the final few minutes. This was one of those games you remember for a long time. Unfortunately, I’m lucky if I experience these once every month or two. And it really elevated Krosmaster: Arena in my eyes… games can occasionally end quickly (sometimes as quick as 30 minutes) if the dice roll funny, but I hadn’t realized until now that they also have the potential to be grueling, mind-draining tactical standoffs. May need the right opponent… but I can’t wait to play again.
I got in quite a goodly amount of gaming this weekend, which started Thursday evening for me (hurrah for vacation!). Much of said gaming was Magic (I went to the prerelease for the newest set on Saturday, plus I played some Commander/EDH and a few other games with more standard-sized decks), but I also got to try out RoboRally and introduce my friends to Hanabi. And I played a couple of games of Sorry with my friends’ daughters. Friday night was a continuation of our Changeling game, so I got in some RPG play as well.
All told, it was a wonderfully fun extended weekend with lots of gaming goodness, including the purchase of three new games/expansions on my part: No Thanks; Jaipur; and Race for the Galaxy: Alien Artifacts. I’m hoping to get in plays on all of them in the near future.
Played Railways of the World with the Western U.S map. Very good game with six players that came down to a tie breaker at the end. Sentinels of the Multiverse playing against Kismet for the first time and boy did she come out swinging. Finished off by playing Timeline and Hanabi.
Fun weekend and I also manage to paint our bathroom so I fulfilled my want to do list.. for now.
I drove down to St. Louis for the Sentinels of the Multiverse: Vengeance expansion release party. So far, it’s pretty excellent. I’m really excited to try out some of the new heroes that I haven’t gotten to play yet.
That was a good weekend. My final tally was Twilight Struggle, Race for the Galaxy, Heimlich & Co., Condottiere, Acquire, Robo Rally, and Ave Caesar. Extra credit for Vampire Empire during a day off work on Monday, I reckon. I even won some of them! 🙂
Again, hosted a board game day for my “college/career” class at the church. This time we opened it to everyone, not just the guys. We again played their favorites from the first night: Tsuro 4 times, Avalon 6 times, and Incan Gold 2 or 3 times. All the new people that showed up greatly enjoyed these games as well.
I also got to introduce the guys to Small World which they loved and were arguing over who should go buy a copy. The girls tried Rampage and loved it as well.
Though we had another game day planned for February, they want to make this a monthly tradition now.
Lots of games, one of the best weekends ever: Zooloretto, For Sale, Coloretto, Ubongo Extreme, Get Bit, Jungle Speed + expansion, Dixit Jinx, Word on the Street Junior, Ricochet Robots, Zombie Dice, Lost Cities, Turbo Taxi, Battle Line, Bohnanza and Through the Ages.
Didn’t know if Id get a day of gaming in, but it totally happened! We (unfortunately) tried Yahtzee Hands Down (don’t. Please don’t), Bruges (yes, please!), Professor Pugnacious, Ascension: Rise of Vigil, All Creatures Large and Small. Epic gaming day.
Had a great weekend gaming! 6 player Settlers of Catan followed by Snake Oil, and then after the sad, sad game of the Super Bowl – if you could even call that a game – we played our first ever game of Steam Park which was a great game! I am definitely looking forward to getting more Steam Park plays in.
Played quite a bit this weekend. Level 7 Omega Protocol, Bang the Dice Game, Tsuro, Carnival Zombie, Wits and Wagers, Say Anything, Lords of Waterdeep, and Smash Up
My group got in games of Coup, Archipelago and Terra Mystica, and I was able to get in a solo game of Thunderstone Advance: Numera later over the weekend.
I am at Afternoon Play this afternoon. I plan to take Tomorrow to test out on another playing group and a friend wants to see what people think of Machine of Death.
Update: I was handed the rulebook and informed that I would be teaching our group of friends how to play Archipelago from a freshly-opened box this evening, with four people that had never even watched a video of it played before.
The first few rounds were a bit confusing as we stumbled our way through, but by round three we were mostly cruising through. What a great game! I am buying it for myself as soon as possible.
Played Agents of SMERSH and Kemet on Monday the 3rd.

Really only a very occasional game of Magic, it takes off again to meet the staff make a date only boardgame (and not only cardgame, lol).

Had a card game mostly day. Started with ST: Settlers of Catan; then played Blind Hen; Barbu; Last Panther; 6 Nimmt; and Sticheln.

I found my old Magiccard and took a play with some friends. That cardgame never gets old!
