“Variant: Random Turn Order”

As a variant to try after getting familiar with the standard game, shuffle the Ship Flag Cards for the non-eliminated players at the start of a round and draw to determine which player acts next. Do not reveal the next card until after each player ends their turn.

This variant introduces a significant amount of luck and chaos into the game, so it is likely favored more by Social/Casual groups rather than the Strategy/Power groups.

“Variant: Random Order and Position”

An additional variant to try, especially when using Allegiances.

Shuffle the Ship Flag Cards for the non-eliminated players at the start of each round and deal them face up in a circle at the center of the play area. This circle defines the turn order for the round, as well as ship adjacency.

This variant comes closer to simulating the chaos of a naval battle where a cluster of warships are constantly in motion, presenting new opponents to engage almost every round.
