While waiting till the petz grow to their full size may seem to be a good idea it is not necessarily so. The expenses taken may not be worth the outcome. In my opinion the best moment to sell a pet is usually when it is one or two levels below its maximum.

Place your worker on the gold mine as frequently as you can. (You can also use the building allowing you to buy gold and sometimes you can even use the resource giving favor track, but do it with care as there may be better options.)

If you have gold you are able to construct buildings that give you most victory points. Even if you do not build them each gold cube is converted into three points at the end of the game. So in fact each worker on the gold mine square is worth at least three points.

If you play too many district cards of one color you risk that other players will try to get the leader you need for themselves or assassinate that leader.

In contrast if you have districts of many colors you can get small benefits from multiple leader and other players have no clue which one you have chosen in the current round.

In a longer run small but frequent benefits from different colored cards are better than bigger but uncommon bonuses gained from focusing on one color.

You should avoid situations where all your meeples are on the board. Opportunities come and go and you would better be ready to catch them and claim a town or a road with your follower. So if it happens that you have all your meeples placed, try to recover one of them even for an otherwise small profit. Most of the time it will pay off.

When you attack another player have a good reason. Usually the best reason is to get a good item from the defeated character. Another one is to finish a weakened character off. Attacking another player’s character just to have fun of inflicting some damage accomplishes nothing. In fact it often turns other players against you. Pointless attacks are one of the main reasons that make new players lose their first several games.

To play Bohnanza in a large group (like 10 players) you may shuffle together cards from the expansions and from the two player version “Al Cabohne”. You will get then the following sets: 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16×2, 18, 19, 20, 22×2, 24, 26, 28. To avoid blocking the game early you may want players to start with three fields with a possibility of buying the fourth one for 3 points.

To determine the starting player, let the players choose their colors first. Then you may put all the players glory markers to one sack, shake it and draw one of the markers. This determines the starting players the rest follow clockwise.

Do not be too hasty especially in narrow passages and near checkpoints (flags). Your foes just wait to hit you with their lasers. Try to be just behind them instead. Damage them first then collect what belongs to you.

Heal your character as often as possible. You never know when the next opportunity arises. Additionally other players usually hesitate to attack a character at full health.
