If you are afraid of a runaway leader problem (the first person to diplomacy a starship running away with the game), try mixing in the starships from the STDBG Next Phase, which are easier to diplomacy and about 25% less powerful.

Carcasonne is a fun game, but can be frustrating after you have played it a few times due to lack of choices due to a poor tile draw.

In this variant, each player starts with 3 tiles and chooses which of the 3 to place on the table. Draw back up to 3 tiles when you are finished.

This can give you more variety in your choices and reduce your frustration level.
