We really enjoyed last week’s game of Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game and hope to get some more time with it this weekend. Also on the table will be some Star Wars: The Card Game and Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game… we’re big Star Wars fans, and we’re anxiously waiting for the next set of X-Wing expansions!
What are you playing this weekend?
Magic, magic, magic and… magic.
@Kaleb – Wallace designed a specific 3-player game: After the Flood. I haven’t gotten a chance to play this yet but it looks very solid. Samurai is of course good with 3. There are a handful of games that play 4 or 5 as well but seem to be really good with 3. Founding Fathers jumps to mind. Trajan scales well. I’d have to think on it some more. We don’t frequently have 3 at the table. But I am pushing for our group to dedicate one Monday night in March to highlight 3-player games.
@coltsfan76 I’m always curious what are the best 3-player games (games that are actually ideal with 3 people vs. any other number – so not including Agricola or Puerto Rico which one may prefer with 3 but are still great with 4 or 5). Only a few come to mind: The Road to Canterbury, The Queen’s Necklace, and maybe Samurai, Torres, & Ra, but the latter are still good with 4, just a bit more chaotic.
Couples’ Game Night (featured 2P games) at NWIBGA’s weekly get-together!
Played: STAR WARS (Card Game), MEMOIR ’44, BACKGAMMON, RESISTANCE (x3, 10P), and ULTIMATE WEREWOLF (x4, 10P). We had a blast!
Could use a couple followers if it’s NP. 🙂
Next weekend I will be playing Pathfinder and Savage Worlds.
Finally completed a full game of Battlestar Galactica (5-player), the Toasters easily taking the win. We subsequently played a second game with the Exodus expansion … a Toaster victory again, do they really need the push?
Finished a first game of Eclipse (4-player) using the new Rise of the Ancients expansion. The improved Alien ship designs (Alien Dreadnaughts over the GCDS and Alien Cruisers with variable and random upgrade designs) were a very welcome addition, and the alien homeworlds added a great risk/reward element to game. We used the Variable Play Direction variant which I thought added value to the second player to pass, and new Developments and Rare Technologies added weight to the economy aspect of the game … but not enough to prevent the threat of Plasma Missiles, yet surprisingly the non-PM alliance won over the PM-alliance. Thanks, monoliths.
Played Cthulhu Flux and Sentinels of the Multiverse.
@granny it was for sure amazing. We are taking it over to our game night friends today for them to try it out. I showed my son the teaser trailer for Forbidden Desert and he got really excited. Thanks again!
Saturday game day fell through but our annual 2-player Valentine Day Game night went well. I always bring some three player games for that awkward third wheel. Played Mystery Rummy: Al Capone, The Road to Canterbury and Queen’s Gambit.
We are rolling with Seasons, Ecplipse, and Tide of Iron. All three have been pretty darn good. Now I am just waiting for my copy of mice and mystics to arrive 🙂
GF got me Mice and Mystics for V-day, but we’re doing a road trip this weekend. Will definitely start playing on my game night though!
@huck1eberry Excellent! Forbidden Island is one of my family’s favorites as well. We can’t wait for Forbidden Desert to come out (adds some new mechanics). So, that gives us all something to look forward to. Pandemic is also being updated with new art, components, and an expansion. If you love good cooperative games, this is going to be a great year.
I was able to purchase and play DiXit, Forbidden Island, Small World Underground.
I will love playing Small World, but I don’t think my family will. Will have to try it out with the game night friends.
DiXit was beautiful illustrated and very interesting, but I think it will take a little while for my son to get the hang of it. I know my wife will love it.
Forbidden Island way by far the families favorite, we played 4 times. Thanks for the recommendation Granny!
Pathfinder. Cargo Noir.
We just got Elder Sign this week. Wow…really having a blast with it. I played with my 7 year old son twice and once with my wife. With my son, we were literally jumping/hugging each other after beating Ithaqua, the ancient one. Cool game.
Picked up Seasons & River Dragons and played both of those. Fun Games.
Going to Con of the North next weekend, so lots of gaming then :).
This weekend’s gamarama includes:
Zendo
Wits & Wagers
Ticket to Ride
Cosmic Encounter
Cargo Noir
Defenders of the Realm
E,V.E
Bloodbowl
Munchkin and Game of Thrones. 🙂
Got in some Marvel Heroic Roleplaying today. Going to get my first taste of Agents of SMERSH on Monday.
