If you are looking to jump into L5R, this is the best Learn to Play set AEG has printed. There are a plethora of reprints from older sets here for current players as well.

The strongholds, holding, personalities, followers and spells all have simple, easy to understand abilities. I am a Tournament Organizer for L5R and I have designed my demo decks for new players to follow these mold set by two decks.

Very well done.

The game is a bit rough to learn at the start, as with most of AEG games, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes very addicting.

Ascension is currently the deckbuilding game champ. I enjoy the fact that you can pick several strategies to try and win the game.

If you like games that are fun and quick, this is a great example of both. The theme of the game is a bit odd, especially if you have small children, but otherwise it’s very fun.

This is more in depth deckbuilding game. It is a little hard to get used to at first but it is worth the early struggle.

Standalone or Expansion? It’s great either way. Adds several new and exciting changes to the game.

Playing multiplayer Legend of the Five Rings was always difficult due to the rules being more geared toward 1-on-1 play. No longer. Bryan Reese and company at AEG crossed L5R with a board game and fixed a lot of the problems that multiplayer L5R once had.

Certainly a worthy expansion to an amazing game.

I’ve played through almost every core set in the game’s history and this is by far the best.

…there are none better than L5R. I’ve been playing the game since 1998, and while the game has a steep learning curve early, the game is the most rewarding one on the market. If you like your games competitive yet you don’t like players bandwagoning, then try this game.
