Chrono is always most effective when he has his bounties in play. Sometimes it is even best to play them all of the main villain. You may not gain all of the various effects that bounties are capable of producing, but you will gain the advantage of the bounty staying in play.
With all of them in play, weapons like Masadah and Tommy Boy are far more effective. Additionally, you have the option of playing Hunter and Hunted and making your damage increase by a substantial margin.
It is, of course, risky to play Hunter and Hunted with all of your bounties in play, so it is best to do so if you have a teammate who can redirect and damage that may head your way.
This should be obvious, but any characters that specialize in halo damage should be left at home against the Dreamer. I trotted out The Tempest and instantly regretted my decision, as my choice was often between damaging the Dreamer or doing nothing with my turn. Stick with characters that do high damage but only to one or two sources. Fanatic and her card “End of Days” is quite helpful…
Iron Legacy is brutal… but with some forethought, fairly easy to ultimately defeat.
The challenge with him is how quickly he can wipe out heroes given a rough draw. I have had great success against him by following this simple tactic: pick at least a few of the heroes for their incapacitated abilities rather than their active abilities.
Off the top of my head, if you are playing with Eternal Haka (the promo version) one of his incapacitated abilities is to reduce all damage for the next round by 2. If you couple this with Fanatic, who has the ability to heal an active hero by 2 each round, you can keep your lone live hero protected for several rounds while he/she heals and builds an arsenal. At that point, quite using the “reduce damage by 2” on Eternal Haka’s turn and let your survivor do some damage. If they get low again, start the protection.
I love the challenge Iron Legacy presents, so I won’t use this tactic every time. But when I do, I’m undefeated (probably around 10 games). One word of warning: this makes for pretty long games.
As I have mentioned about previous installments of this awesome game I highly susggest using dice to keep track of characters health stats, I suggest you do the same. A bunch of D6’s will do but I suggest the following:
Dice Required Per:
Heroes – one D6 & one D10
Villians – two D10s (except Akahsa’Buhta needs an extra D3)
Random Targets – a few D10s should cover you
What not to do:
A few games ago, just for fun, I talked one other person into playing against Iron Legacy. Just the two of us each playing one character.
I should have just dug us two graves. We were dead in four rounds.
I would suggest not playing against Iron Legacy with less than at least three people. If I find a winning scenario against him, I’ll let you know. So far, I like the odds of asking for mercy.

As I have mentioned about previous installments of this great game I highly suggest using a “open Hand” policy when gaming. My play group play with our hands revealed for all to see, simple laid out on the table. Our gaming table is large enough to support this, even with up to 5 players. I highly suggest others do the same, assuming they have the space.
The benefit of this is so its easier for players to discuss options and combos if and when they arise.
Just a heads up as with the other installments of this amazing game, combos can happen that make the game too easy for the heroes, its rare but it can happen. I can think of 3 “trumps” that make the game too easy, but I am sure they might be more out there.
Now I wanna make it clear these are by far not the standard events in this game and in no way should reflect poorly on the game as a whole.
If and when this happens it is completely understandable to enjoy the slaughter, or you can do what my play group does and tries not to trigger these combos. We have found the game is a lot more fun when it is challenging.
Iron Legacy… wow!
My play group and I just played against Iron Legacy for the first time. He beat us on the top of turn 3. I died before playing my second card.
So here’s a tip, when playing Iron legacy make sure you do not take him to lightly. You have been warned. 🙂
