“Concentrate on Thugs”

Since building up your tribe numbers equates to victory points, it is important to consider building up large point cards to build up your tribe. Group Leaders, Sniper Teams, and best of all, Thugs will build up your poits in a way that you can’t always get from Contested Resources. Don’t get me wrong, Contested Resources can be great but if you are spending all your resources in concentrating on the skirmish against other opponents for a fight that you may or may not win, consider buying these guaranteed tribe members instead. When I play in our group, I have a few members that focus heavily on contested resources, they are always surprised when I focus on hiring these high valued specialists and end up winning. Remember its all about collecting high point valued tribe members.

“Tweaking the solo rules”

The official rules requires that every time you need to suffle your discard pile, you have to remove a card, acting like a kind of timer but the truth is that it does’nt put enough pressure on the player who has enough time to build the best deck.

Instead, I take the removed card and add it to one of the skirmish decks making them harder to beat the longer the game takes.

Also if you lose a skirmish, instead of removing only 1 card you remove a number of cards coresponding to the fighting force difference

“Skirmishing”

You can decide that skirmishing wont happen for more than the first two rounds, maybe even five rounds. This gives everyone a little more time to build their deck and feel like they’ve accomplished a little more before going skirmish heavy. This will make the game a little longer but I think it will be ok if that means some players can get the cards and buildings they want and can actually see them used in the game instead of finally acquiring them at the end and never being able to use them.

“Engineer”

Although this is a deck building game and you are somewhat at the mercy of what you draw. It is highly beneficial to get an engineer early to start building buildings. It will put give you just the edge you need against you’re opponent to be able to produce free materials or save cards from one round to the next. Buy an Engineer early.
