Happy Thanksgiving to all of those who celebrate it, and happy weekend to everyone else!
We’ve already got some gaming in, playing Hand and Foot as well as Abyss. This weekend we’re planning to play Dead of Winter and Lords of Xidit.
Have you got gaming in already this week? And what are your gaming plans for the weekend?
@b0bb33z3r
Agreed
@Anr0ss
the WAYPLTW thread should be looked at as a week long review. It starts on the weekend allowing people to list the stuff they are looking forward to playing, but the convo runs through the following week so we can relay the experience after the fact. 🙂
I really need to try out Whitechapel, it’s gotten nothing but rave reviews from BGPCs
I hate commenting late on these. But free time during the Christmas rush is hard to come by. So Sunday I played a game of Lords of Waterdeep, Akrotiri (my new favorite non Star Realms two player) and the Heroes of Might and Magic Board Game. Monday was a couples night situation and I brought along Letters from Whitechapel. WOW, I have to work on a review to really get my admiration and feeling down. Evey game of Whitechapel is just better and better.
Friday I taught my 6-year-old nephew Loot, and it quickly saved me from hours of Uno. He loved it! However, hours of Loot turned out to be scarcely better. A fun game, but simple and repetitive.
Then some friends stayed with us, and we pulled out Dominion and Dominion: Intrigue for old times’ sake. Not my favorite game, but a good time catching up over a simple drafting game.
This week is my wife’s birthday, so I got her one of her favorite games, Blokus, so that will be next weekend’s tabletop fare.
Spent the holidays playing Dead of Winter. Not very holiday-oriented, but good for giving thanks for what you have!
Gaming was evidently not on the agenda with the family this season. I got in a couple plays of SotM on the trusty tablet, but narrowly missed breaking out Villainy or Rampage. Deal-wise, we picked up a number of children’s games at decent prices and scored a decent price on Rampage.
Five of us got together for our monthly game day and played Cash & Gunz twice, Marvel legendary twice(cause we lost the first game) and Cosmic Encounter.
We took out Mansions of Madness this weekend. It was my first time playing it and I loved it. I love the story lines to each game. It puts me right into the centre of the game. Very thematic and loved the illustrations. The miniatures were not painted – would be better if they were. All in all, very fun and eventful game. Takes time to set up but if you’re eager to play there’s really no issues there.
@Hai Meatballs?! You said Roast beef! That’s a party foul.
We didn’t get much table top gaming done this weekend. Played some Cootie and Ant’s in the Pants with the kids. What time was left we spent playing and unlocking things in the new Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Even my little ones got in on it for a bit tho my daughter was more concerned with changing the color of Rosalina’s dress before every match than actually smashing 😛
Didn’t get too much gaming in, but I did get caught up on unboxing and reading rules on a few Kickstarter arrivals.
Did get one “play as we read the rules” game of Cross Hares in yesterday and am looking forward to (hopefully) The Captain is Dead for next weekend!
It was a great weekend for gaming.

Back home from the ungaminest of holidays and for the next 24 hours I’ll be drinking tea and being a cyber-shopping maven. The best part of being entrenched in the niche hobby is I’ll never have to go to a crowded mall and slap someone across the face over Ticket to Ride.
As the Black Friday/Cyber Monday blur is one of the best times to find cardboard deals – I figured I’d be an Enabler Elf and share some interesting finds I have stumbled across so far. (This is going to require serious href-ing and probably set of the BGdot Echelon.
Hai’s BlackCyber 2014 Hot Sheet
Greater than Games isn’t doing anything crazy like a holiday promo pack this year, but they have a few deals on buttons and knick knacks you can only find in their on-line store.
Flying Frog has their annual holiday sale up. There’s a special gift edition of Dark Gothic. This is a good time to pick up their web exclusive mini packs for Last Night,Fortune and Glory,Touch of Evil, Shadows of Brimstone, etc. It is an annual tradition that they release a handful of cards and promos for the holidays and The Boy knows to swoop in and grab them as stocking stuffers.
This is a big one and a yearly calendar marker! Fantasy Flight Games and the annual Winter Sale. Every year they drop prices drastically on some warehouse malingerers. (I like the 3 dollar game novels for Android and Arkham Horror.) High price games going for $10 to $20. Armies of discount miniatures. Warhammer RPG source books. This year’s big ticket seems to be Gears of War for 30.
Plaid Hat has a few small deals but the main craziness is GIANT bundle deals on everything Summoner Wars, Mice and Mystics and an inventory Pu Pu Platter. There’s still a discount pre-order on Summoner Wars:Alliances.
Victory Point Games is doing something interesting by unlocking a 25% discount on a mystery game every few days through the month of December. VP does very high quality print on demand which makes them rather pricey. Discounts are welcome. I’m hoping to see For the Crown. Deckbuilding meets chess? *toes crossed*
AEG usually has some nice 35% discounts for the BlackCyber and this year is no exception. Plus the standard L5R holiday grab bag to boot. 😉 Deep discounts on Nightfall and Thunderstone:Classic. Another bit of holiday craziness: a small batch of Doomtown Reloaded: Premium Sets. GAH! So pretty it hurts. The smell of Gen Con and the bitter aftertaste of trying to win one #GenCant style. (Since The Boy isn’t allowed here – this is the big holiday/anniversary gift. Technically for him, but I will have my mitts all over it. *GLEE*)
Japanime Games has a few deals going on for their Krosmaster sets and mini packs. The Smiling Plastic Chibi Crack can get pretty expensive. I do it for The Nieces. (Tip: Track down a set of Season One: Foil Pack as a stocking stuffer. It supplies character cards for models you may not have. 😉 I learned this recently by opening a wrong box from CSI. The Boy had ordered one for The Nieces and I to gawk at. Holiday Fail on my part!)
Game Salute is notoriously pricey in my book. I make it a point to follow their Kickstarters – as afterwards they up-price the games and then break the stretch goals into upmarket expansions – sometimes several. This weekend they seem to be running discounts if you were considering a missed Kick.
Steve Jackson’s Warehouse 23 can be a scary (and strangely organized) place, but every year I wander the stacks to get the yearly Warehouse 23 Exclusive Munchkin Booster. One for our collection and one to break up and distribute to our Munchkin-headed gaming group. They still have a few ghosts of Munchkin years past also. 😉
As a general on-line presence: FunAgain and the cardboard behemoth Cool Stuff Inc are running some nice BlackCyber sales with deals on recent hot titles and a few ‘Tickle Me Elmos’ in the Cardboard Kingdom.
Happy Shopping! Happy Gaming!
Got some games in this weekend.
With the adults –
Grimoire
Love Letter
With the kids –
Catan Dice
Trouble
Cthulu Dice
Spot It
Bling Bling Gemstone
GoLong
Yoo Hoo Can You Moo
We played Cthulu Dice with Skittles instead of glass tokens. The winner got to eat three Skittles. I also let the kids eat their sanity while they were playing, but would they have a permanent penalty for the rest of the session. I am going to have to find a way to fine tune the candy mechanic.
I also worked on my Magic the Gathering Access database I have been fine-tuning. I successfully managed to cause all cards entered to become hyperlinks in a searchable query that takes me to a website that pulls up that card. Now I just need to work on entering in my collection, just for general nerdiness.
didn’t get any actual playing done, however, i did paint minis for 12 hours straight. got two more to go til i finish the core set of Arcadia Quest. now to figure out if i want to open the guildmaster set or sit on it for a few years to make money on ebay.. anyways i had as much fun as actually playing the game 🙂
Played with my family several great games at Spielbound, none of which are listed online here: Sheriff of Nottingham (highly recommended!), King of New York, Spiel, and Stomple.
I played Diamonds, Sun Tzu, Splendor, Maci Koro and Realm of Won
Light games including Jaipur and Pandemic: The Cure Saturday night – Sunday is up for anything
We played some old and new games today. Power Grid Deluxe Edition hit the table with the new map. Medici, Five Tribes, Forbidden Desert, Star Trek Catan, Lagoon, Istanbul, Good Cop, Bad Cop, Sherrif of Nottingham, King of New York, and Diamonds all made an appearance as well. I hope to play some more new games tomorrow.
We have been cleaning up some unplayed Kickstarter games: Waggle Dance, Ryan Smith’s City and the just-arrived Luchador! Mexican Wrestling Dice. Ryan Smith’s City has been the big winner for me – a gratifying light civ builder that plays in under an hour and works flawlessly for 2.
@Hai – I noticed this new link quirk about a week ago… I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s saving me a bunch of time!
Don’t know if you noticed, but the link mysteriously added to your Clue comment goes to the Game Request page! There’s a ghost in the machine, and it wants out…
@bobb33z3r It was meatballs (bleh) – Someone went 2nd Edition on me.
Hmmm…is it me or does there seem to be a Link Faerie creating library links. I know I didn’t href Clue.
Curiouser and curiouser….
