After seeing Mice & Mystics images… wow. I’m going to go look for my jaw somewhere under the bed.
How does one make suggestions for games to include? I’d love to see Battleground: Fantasy Warfare get some more exposure.
I really need to find a game shop to try some of these games out!
I enjoy Ninja vs Ninja and am looking forward to Mice and Mystics.
Awesome list, as always. I hear a lot about Tannhauser though I’ve never played it. Thanks for adding all the games, guys.
Yes, Tannhaüser! One incredibly intense vicious game — and it’s just dripping with theme. A two player dice-roller with several game modes, lots of in-game options and plenty of ways to surprise and slaughter your opponent. Warning: not for the faint of heart or those subject to AP.
Mice and Mystics does look like a must have to me.
1960: The Making of the President is an excellent 2 player game even if you weren’t alive at the time or aren’t a history geek. It’s very much like a simpler Twilight Struggle, which makes sense when you realize they share a designer. Easily one of my favourite 2 player games, unfortunately it can be hard to convince others to play because of its theme, which is funny because it was the theme that originally made me buy it.
I am excited about Mice and Mystics as well, although I can’t help but feel a little concern that Plaid Hat is unable to come up with their own unique subject matter (not derivative of something else). This looks very much like MouseGuard (an excellent graphic novel and RPG by David Petersen or The Tale of Despereaux by
Kate DiCamillo). However, what Plaid Hat does well is create games that are easy to learn with good mechanics and depth despite the simplicity. I was also worried about replay value, etc,… then, I read this preview and feel even more compelled to give this game a try…

I still await Plaid Hat’s genre defying masterpiece, but think this game does look promising. Board game RPGs are a tricky lot. We’ll see.
Red Dragon Inn 1,2, and 3 are nice additions to the site. I have never “loved” these games, but always enjoy them in the right setting with the right gamers.
@ Morlimar: Gotta love the Heroscape connection. Jerry Hawthorne also did some work on Heroscape with Colby, as well as working on Battleship: Galaxies. I’m in the middle of listening the to the D6 podcast now. Colby Dauch also has a podcast (Plaidhat Podcast) which mostly focuses on game design from a small company’s point of view.
@ Akden – I will be preordering it too – and support the company fully. Listened to a great interview with Colby – the head of the company. Seems he got his start designing Heroscape figures solo – then at Hasbro… started the “heroscapers” website too!
The podcast is D6 Generation in case anyone is interested.
I love the idea and look of Mice & Mystics too. Unfortunately, though the $25 off deal is really enticing, I’m somewhat put off by $50 shipping to the UK. I may just have to wait and hope that someone imports it for us.
Whoah – a second Game Update so soon? Wow, you guys are burning the midnight oil, well done! 🙂
I was lucky enough to know a play tester in the area. The game is fun, I’ve already pre-ordered it too.
The minis were designed by the same guy who did Dungeon Run’s minis, so you know the details despite their size will be pretty darn nice.
@ Morlimar: So far, it seems you can’t go wrong with Plaid Hat. I preordered the day they announced the game. 🙂 $25 off for the preorder seems to be a pretty good deal.
As far as information goes, in addition to the rules, Plaid Hat has also released chapter one of the storybook (both links can be found here: http://www.plaidhatgames.com/games/mice-and-mystics). There is a fair amount of discussion on BGG about the game, as well as postings of the miniatures and some spoiler cards.
The designer, Jerry Hawthorne, also has a recent interview on the front page of the Blagog Blog (a Summoners Wars blog) at http://blagog.com/. The components look great, and it really looks to be a unique and interesting game. As you can probably tell, I’m pretty excited about it.
Ive heard lots of things about Mice and Mystics. Sounds pretty interesting, but everything Ive heard has been from their podcasts. I guess the box is supposed to be pretty heavy with stuff. On the Plaid Hat website you can get it now for -$25.00.
Agreed! It looks like a great fresh new game format – and family friendly! I love me some Red Dragon Inn ! * hic! *
Thanks for the new games. Great job on continuing to build the site. I can’t wait for Mice and Mystics from Plaid Hat!
