“plan of attack”

I play as evil most of the time and for the most part I’ve won most by taking the north first then Gondor. North has 5 poi ts and gondor has 5 points. First off get the witch king out for more dice and his special. If they turtle in Gondor to much I’ve also headed into lorien from moria.try not to attack Ronan unless their already at war..they have a lot of reinforcements.
For the good, separate gandalf from party as soon as possible or when you get close to an army with a lot of nazgul. When he becomes gandalf the white, his special can devastate the leader reroll of the nazgul. Have lost many a battle due to gandalf >.<

also paint the bases the right colour at least if you paint anything. I painted my bases random colors then realized that each race already had their own color of the borders of their cities.

“If you paint nothing else...”

Paint the bases of the units to match factions. It will really speed up your set-up and lessen your clean-up times.

“Base Your Strategy on Available Event Cards”

Unless a clear path to victory has become available, keep your strategy flexible and tailor it to the event cards you have in your hand. For example, if you are the Shadow player and all your event cards allow mustering in the North, maybe it will be best to hold off on Minas Tirith and focus on where you’ll get the most advantages.

Maximizing what the cards provide for you can help push your strategy into a viable effort!

“Gandalf must die in Moria”

I’ve tried taking alternative routes so as to avoid Moria but Gandalf was always right. In the game, it is probably the best way to go: cross Moria, let the Shadow player try to find you and luckily, he will draw a 3 from the corruption damage pile. By getting rid of Gandalf and having him resurrect in Fangorn, he will be more useful later on in the game. If you are extremely lucky with the cards and you get one or some of the “the ents awake” cards you will be able to get some piece in Rohan (if your rolls are successful).

“Board Matching Paint Color”

I just finished painting my WotR set. I chose to match my bases as close as possible to the colors of the board. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Vallejo Game Color #72.035 Dead Flesh is a great match for many of the spaces. It is a massive time saver to not have to mix paint and be able to use that color right from the bottle!

“Muster Elites to Garrison Your Strongholds”

Strongholds under siege can contain five units maximum. This space limitation creates a dynamic where the quality of the unit becomes more critical. To hold off the attackers for the longest time, it is important to muster as many elite units as possible near key strongholds. This will allow you to sustain more hits and hopefully survive a few more turns, possibly long enough for relief forces to arrive.

Most of the best uses of Free Peoples units involve prolonging Shadow military victory to buy Frodo precious time. This strategy is one method of maximizing efficiency out of each unit.
