There is only a few titles that allows getting green meeples so if you have a chance get them all.
Having green meeples in your pool is a big advantage since its hard for the others to bid or use actions on the green meeple tiles
You will always have some of each of the 3 basic colors but focus on gathering 1 particular color. You do this in the following ways: 1)bid on boats that have mainly 1 color. 2)In Summer and Autumn “bid” on actions on your own properties 1st so that you determine the color for that action. 3)Use colors that you don’t have a lot of to take actions on other people’s properties. This forces them to use those colors for desirable actions they or others own and leads them towards bidding colors you want on your actions. 4) Finally, get green as soon as possible and use that for bids on things you want early on.
I found that upgrading home tiles early on was incredibly helpful in quickly moving goods from tile to tile. A lot of end game conditions require you to have goods on a specific tile, so if you have that speedy mobility, you have a better chance at scoring more points in the end. Of course, you need to make sure you use the ability on your tile before someone else snags it from you.
The first few times I played, we had only 2 players and having MORE Keyples (meeples) was quite a bit more important than anything else. When we played with 4 or more players, the strategy was much deeper and you could easily find yourself with a bunch of unhelpful Keyples.
“Oh, you bid on that tile to place it, but you’re not able to use it anymore.”
The only downside of this strategy is that you’re giving the player workers, but it’s a small price to pay to watch them go aghast.
If you enjoy this game be aware that are 2 expansions and some promotional tiles. The expansions are ” The Farmers” and “The Merchants”. there are 4 promo tiles available but you will have to look around for them. Try Boardgamegeek.com and the company website to track them down.
