“Keeping Your Opponent Out of Scoring Position”

Once you’ve got a few hours of Dragonheart under your belt you’ll probably have filled its strategy warehouse to the rafters. There’s just not much more to learn about the game after that. The one and only rule I always adhere to when playing: I never lay down a card if it will leave my opponent just one card away from scoring on their turn.

If there is already one Huntress on the board, I will not play the second. Doing so would leave my opponent needing just one Huntress in their hand to claim any Gold Dragons that may be waiting. I would much rather lay down another (much more valuable) Gold Dragon in that situation… I’ve increased the pot, but my opponent will either need to wait to accumulate 2 Huntresses before playing either, or they’ll foolishly lay down the 2nd Huntress for me… and I get to score!

This holds true for the Warriors and Dwarves as well. They score when they hit 2 and 4 respectively, so I won’t play a Dwarf past the second one until I can score them, and won’t play a Warrior at all until I can score the Sorceress or Troll.

To be honest, I couldn’t care less about winning or losing this game. It’s fun (and quick) either way. But I win it much more than I lose, and this is why.

“The Double Dragon”

If you ever find your hand holding more than 1 dragon card; play 1 dragon card even if you already own the dragon. It’s much better to get an extra card than to sit on 2 dragons. Besides, you still have 1 dragon card in case you want to steal it back!
