Well, being that I’ve caught a bug I’m gonna be kept away from family and friends for the weekend. Maybe that’s a good excuse to pull out Mage Knight or Myth and have some solo gaming time.
What are you playing this weekend?

A good weekend of gaming! Got in several games on Saturday afternoon, cracking out my pre-Christmas acquisition Splendor for the first time (two games in a row — excellent game, very fun), then Planes and Istanbul. Kicked off evening gaming with Sentinels (fighting Miss Information) and then Telestrations Comedy Theater after dinner.
Sunday, played the new DC Comics Rivals: Batman vs. Joker, and then a round of Siege: Heart of Darkness in front of the handegg playoffs.
Did some gaming with the kids. We played Spot It and Zombie Dice, and then we played a few games of a new one I got, No Stress Chess which was interesting.
For those who don’t know it, No Stress Chess is basically a Chess primer. There is a deck of 52 cards, most of which depict a piece, along with a diagram of how it moves and movement description. Once side of the board has the starting positions of the pieces mapped out. When you draw a card, you move the piece depicted. My 3 1/2 year old was able to set up her pieces herself, and by the end of the first game knew the names of the pieces and was able to follow the diagram on the card to know how to move them when they came up. Being held to the cards made for some wacky games for me too, although truth be told I would be annihilated in the first round of any Chess tournament. Worth a look if you have kids.
I finally got around to unboxing and assembling my copy of Ogre, Design Edition I was impressed with the cardboard 3D models overall, although a little super glue was necessary for a couple. The sheer size of this originally portable game is ludicrous. I am seriously stoked to try and play it.
I am getting ready to play a few games of Warhammer Quest now because the 6 year old is asking. How can I say no to that?
Had a great gaming weekend! Went to the FLGS and played Dungeon Roll and Smash Up! Then had my younger brother over for Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, and Magic. My wife even played!
Please forgive the exuberance. It was a great time.
slow weekend only played some 2nd edition Descent and Space Sheep and Splendor.
Legendary encounter for me. had a first go at it tonight.
Lost because all of the heroes i could buy were high cost, and couldn’t really get any heroes after the first few rounds, i’ll have to use the barrack search cards more efficiently next time. still managed to get to the final alien and almost through the whole hive deck regardless of my decks being pretty wimpy.
solo, with two hands, i have heard that 3 is the sweet spot, but fear will get even more confusing with me playing another hand.
Gamesalot, how are you liking the SOTM Wrath of the Cosmos expansion? Does it stack up well against the other expansions?
We ended up playing a number of games this weekend, which was a pleasant surprise indeed. These made the list:
-Dragon Slayer
-Munchkin (with recently-purchased expansions added in for more fun)
-Boss Monster (friend brought it over and did a horrible job explaining the rules, but we enjoyed it nonetheless after everything started to gel for us.)
-SotM (with Wrath of the Cosmos expansion just added)
-Zombie Dice
-Machi Koro – love it!
-Splendor
Since I had to work this weekend, gaming night will be on Monday (the joys of public service ;-). I’m feeling like a Days of Wonder, either Cargo Noir or Relic Runners, then onto Sushi Go and Splendor.
Well I am one happy gamer this weekend. After having acquired Zombie 15′ on Boxing Day, I finally had the chance to play it for the first time and I had a blast!! I even played with a group of friends leaning more on the casual side of gaming and they were totally hooked. We completed the first 4 scenarios and, fingers crossed, we’ll play some more next week 😀
I pretty much stepped away from the tabletop for the weekend. The Boy went out chumming with his chums to play some Zombicide (most likely with the newly acquired Rue Morgue expansion) and whatever Axis and Allies type wargame they get jonesing for. 😛
I was content to shuffle about the house in a state of non-Zen, gluing some Shadows of Brimstone:Swamps of Death bugaboos together (having completed City of Ancients YESSSSSS! Praise the Darkstone) and in a state of extreme Zen bashing blocks and unlocks in Lego Batman 3.
And I am still curious to find out what was in @Akden’s mysterious box of mystery!
Had again the monthly gathering of friends to play Race for the Galaxy, Letters from Whitechapel, Resistance, Outburst Remix! and lastly Eldritch Horror.
Solo playing some GEARS OF WAR this Saturday.
I went through the first scenario and was a bit bummed – it was somewhat boring. It was a learning scenario, I guess, and it wasn’t very exciting.
The second scenario – well, it made me a believer :). It was a very fun, challenging scenario where you have to lead a powerful opponent across several maps to it’s doom while fending off other dangerous enemies.
It was a big family board gaming Saturday, we played
Colt Express
Black Fleet
The Hare and the Tortoise
Mysterium
The big family winner was Mysterium
@Artem Safarov
We are using the 3rd Edition, and going back to the Enemy Within campaign (it’s been years). I don’t have to GM this go ’round, so I’ll be able to concentrate on just having fun. It’s been a few months since we had an RPG going.
@Artem Thanks! So funny thing last night is that we didn’t end up playing Castle Panic, but instead played Skull (aka Skull & Roses), Hanabi, which came as a pleasant surprise, and I tried out Dutch Blitz for the first time.
Skull is a GREAT game to open up with and I always bring it with me to every gaming session. It’s fast, super simple to learn, but the best thing is seeing the hilarious reactions once the first skull is flipped over. Friends are immediately hooked and it has become a favourite among the group.
I was surprised at the positive response to playing Hanabi, as half of the people I was with had never played it before, but even the most casual gamer among the group said that he liked it! This was a game that I did not think to consider introducing to a new gamer, but it was actually well received.
Dutch Blitz was a great way to end the evening. To me, it’s a mashup between Solitaire and Speed, both which I played frequently and enjoyed when I was younger. This game was fun, though I did feel bad when my friend bent his card as he made a frantic attempt to place one of his cards on top of a pile!
A great start to the weekend, hoping I can squeeze in another gaming session with some more people!
Meeting with the local gaming group on Sunday! Likely candidates are 7 Wonders, Resistance/Coup/Masquerade, and Smash Up. Maybe I’ll bring A Game of Thrones in case we find six intrepid gamers up to learning the game with me!
Gruns
@RCross good on you for introducing people to the hobby! Castle Panic great for that (you wrote a really neat review of Wizards Tower by the way).
@Granny, WFRP is awesome, one of my favourite worlds. Whih edition are you using?
As for me, i won’t have a ton of gaming as we are celebrating my son’s birthday, but expect to play some Ticket to Ride: Europe with my parents.
Restarted yesterday our Pathfinder Rise of the Runelords campaing, build decks for our characters (we did not use the suggestions, as we wanted to have very clear from the begining that our group must be balanced) Our previos approach has been some kind of training, and now we go for the whole campaing. Played the first scenario, and really liked our group.
For the rest of the weekend i will sure play something with my girlfriend, maybe some World Without End or City of Iron
Discovered the elegant beauty of Coloretto and followed it up with the brutal subterfuge of Dominare. That’s probably it this weekend, since the Gam Bling family unit will be heading to a concert on our regular game night.
I have got a bit addicted to carcassone digital version for the i-phone. Will probably try and get a board game out, only the 2 of us this weekend.
