What are you playing this weekend? (Feb 8)

Posted by Jim {Power Gamer} | 8-Feb-13 | 45 comments

We really enjoyed last week’s game of Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game and hope to get some more time with it this weekend. Also on the table will be some Star Wars: The Card Game and Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game… we’re big Star Wars fans, and we’re anxiously waiting for the next set of X-Wing expansions!

What are you playing this weekend?

A lot more Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition work for my campaign. Hope my players are enjoying playing it as much as I am crafting it!

With the Gamer Bling Official Companion taken ill, along with Gamer Bling Expansion #1, yours truly got to play three games with Gamer Bling Expansion #2: Infinite City and Straw twice. The poor boy’s ten-year-old kung fu was no match for Gamer Bling’s inherent luck and mean ol’ dad pulled off a hat trick.

We finally got Caylus to the table, and the group really enjoyed it, so it is definitely becoming part of our gaming rotation. We also got in a quick game of San Juan.

Not expecting much gaming this weekend, but we’ve already had a play of a prototype rail building game that I’m working on and expect to have a session of Game of Thrones card game.

Another game day at my house. 3rd Saturday in a row. Still waiting on final player count but hoping to get another session of Princes of the Renaissance, maybe Nobleman, or whatever else I can strong arm them into.

Monsay night is our annual “Valentine’s Game Night” – which translates to 2-player only games. Hoping to get Queen’s Gambit played, some 2-player card games, and any C&C games I can fit in.

Will be trying out Takenoko with my wife which I just got hoping to play with her (the theme should help). With the same order I also got Roll Through The Ages that we already played and it is a hit so we will be playing some more of that as well.

@Granny thanks for the advice. My wife is really wanting DiXit. So imagine it’s at the top of the mix. I don’t own either Small World but a friend owns the regular so . . . I am picking up underground.

Any and all recommendations are awesome!

I’ve planning on getting through my third solo game of Mage Knight (gotta win some time, right?) this week-end. I’ll also be setting up a couple of Heroscape maps for an upcoming tournament in Maryland, so my son and I will hopefully play a few rounds of that as well.

War of the Ring (with Lords of Middle-Earth expansion) session planned, so a whole afternoon of intense gaming. 🙂 Hopefully also a few games of Small World and Jaipur.

@Huckleberry If you want a game you can play with just about anybody, I’d suggest King of Tokyo. You can play it with kids or adults. It has incredible replay value.

For cooperative games, I like Forbidden Island for beginners. Pandemic is great, as well as Flash Point. Forbidden Island is designed by the same guy who designed Pandemic.

Dixit is a great party game, but some people HATE it (people who just don’t want to make something up). It’s fantastic with the right group.

Small World Underground is fine. It doesn’t add much if you already have played Small World. If you have Small World… I’d think buying any of the other games would be money better spent. If you don’t have a copy of SW or SWU, any collection could use one IMO.

R2 we have never played cooperative. My wife and I finally found some regular gaming partners so this is a new adventure. We are super excited to have someone now. We have been playing Munchkin but I want some other options.

Thanks

Huckleberry, if you are into cooperative games, I can’t recommend Pandemic and the On The Brink expansion enough. It has been a favorite for all of the people I game with, from Family/Social gamers on up.

We will play some City Square Off with our youngest, and some more X-Wing Miniatures with my oldest son. I hope to play the new Eclipse expansion. The masochist in me wants to play a 9 player game just to see how long that will take.

Oh! And for Bang! lovers… Samurai Sword is a fun game using the same mechanics. It’s a little easier to teach and play IMO… which lends itself to playing with younger folks or non-gamers. It’s still a bluffing game, and decidedly “evil” by nature… but in a fun way!

I have a shipment with CO2, Ginkgopolis, Myrmes, Sewer Pirates, and Space Cadets coming, so I may get one or two of those games in as well. Super Excited (claps hands together, jumping up and down, like Santa has just flown across the moon)!

I am going to the LGS tonight. Trying to figure out what to buy, current options are
-Small World Underworld
-Pandemic
-King of Tokyo
-DiXit

or a combination of a couple of those. . .

Need some suggestions maybe.

Mrs. Millhouse is going to be out of town for the night so the boys will be over for some gaming. I don’t know what we will get ourselves into though. Maybe some Agricola or something deep like that. Brings up two thoughts. One, I need to set up a new Heroscape board for us soon. Two, I need to get to a game night at my local shop for some fresh blood of games.
