All of the forced choice cards (see my review of the game) will demand the choice be made, and then narrate the consequences of the choice for the continuing of the game (who loses, who wins, who has to play the rest of the game as a tyrannical megalomaniac, etc.).
Read the whole card to yourself before you decide to play it. Sometimes the choice will not make sense for the number playing; sometimes the consequences will work against you inevitably; sometimes it’s just not that great of a choice. If you play the card, read only the choice to be made! Once those asked have made their choice, then read the consequences.
At Christmas my wife and I have taken to playing this game as a quick and simple way to have lots of fun and slow down the gift-opening occasion. We usually get each other stocking-stuffer type gifts, and we play We Didn’t Playtest This At All to break up the paper-shredding frenzy.
Because games only last a few turns, and it’s completely random who wins any given game, it’s a quick and easy way of winning the chance to give a gift, and enjoy each gift individually, rather than opening them all at once. We don’t have kids yet, but we’ve talked about how fun it will be to play this game with kids, to decide at random who opens one of their gifts next.
And with this game, the word strategy is a foreign concept. Seriously if you have never played this game you can literally sit down and start in. There is no strategy or tip that would be appropriate to better gameplay because this game is about as random as the paths of particles out of an atom smasher. Just draw the cards and throw out whatever seems good at the time. Don’t expect any sort of long term plans or anything like that. Think ahead about 10 seconds because that’s about as long as any plan will work. Good luck.
