“You wanna have a good job? You go to college”

Always seems obvious, but you really do want to go to college. It gives you a pretty big boost in jobs available to you, and $20k usually is a drop in the bucket at the end.

“Choose College OR Night school... not both”

I’ve made the mistake of going to college and then going to night school and getting a salary DECREASE. Just choose one or the other.

“50% payouts for failing card challenges”

Every now and then we’d get cards that wanted us to do random stuff like ask another player if they’d like a drink, and if they say yes you get money. However, if everyone said no, then instead of walking away empty handed we’d let them get 50% of the money they would have received if they pulled it off. Kind of lame, but so is this game.

“Play without the Life cards”

Every time we play the game, it becomes obvious who is gonna win – the one with the most Life cards. Everything else becomes moot – salary, kids, etc – when compared to the big payouts in the Life cards! So just give them a miss and try it without. Games are much closer that way.

“Spinner troubles?”

A friend recently told the group they had never played the game of life so of course we busted it out.

the spinner keep giving up problems not spinning right or flying off. Point being scrap the spinner and pull out a D10 so much easier.

“If you don't like the lawsuit aspect, ...”

then have the player who lands on a lawsuit space, just lose money instead. This only if you have issues with suing other people.

“Ahh to be 13 again...”

When I was younger the Game of Life wasn’t an often played game, my neighborhood friends and I were busy playing sports or video games, roaming the neighborhood, playing man-hunt or very very awkwardly interacting with girls. Well, every once in a blue moon, usually on crumby rainy days, my friends and I did play, and every time we did, the only path to victory in the game was to fill your station wagon with as many kids as possible. Clearly, having kids meant you were getting some action, and the more kids you had, the more action you were getting. I look back on it and have to laugh at the ridiculousness of it, but it seemed revolutionary back then! Then again, having recently played the Game of Life over Thanksgiving and being completely frustrated with the game (there’s a reason it’s currently scoring a 5 rating…) I’m starting to wonder if my old way was the more fun way…. 🙂
