“Scoring ”

When scoring, don’t go person-by-person, but score one column at a time with everyone. This way, it will be easier to see who has the most of certain items in case it comes up with the secret cards.

“Pass the parrot”

There aren’t very many opportunities to steal the parrot, so some other rule to pass it would be nice- for instance, if someone beats the player with the parrot, they then get it.

“Move the ship”

For a quicker game, move the ship in between each turn or play on the side of the board with fewer islands, even if you have the “wrong” amount of players.
