Like many of Feld’s games, no two games are the same and this requires efficiency of economy (& a bit of luck). Some like to win big in ~1-2 of the stages each round, whereas I like to be good in 3-4. In order to do that, I recommend focusing on higher level green buildings early. Pick the Blue building 1 at game beginning and buy the green building and upgrade it. Getting more cards at each round makes up for Doge placement. Just be sure you have enough coins to pay for it.

Near the end, gondolas can be very powerful at either reducing the point value of someone else’s territory, taking over a territory, or forcing the last bridge to go on territory you control.
