“Acceptable Dialogue”

When my friends and I play this, and we get the card asking for so many lines of dialogue, we do accept song lyrics.

“"When You're a King, You Have to Know These Things"”

With so many flavors of Fluxx out there, it’s a good idea to make sure you know your game group when you pick one to play. Some are *relatively* universal (most people should get Star Fluxx, or regular Fluxx) but some won’t go over well if your group doesn’t know the theme. Monty Python Fluxx suffers from this perhaps more than most.

Case in point, we played a game a while back in which two of us were Monty Python fans… and it turned out the other two of us had never seen a single Monty Python film. This resulted in a lot of oppression, and not much rejoicing, because a) the two of us who knew Monty Python were able to sing the songs, do voices, and more greatly appreciate the jokes in the cards and b) the other two guys were not only unhappy that they couldn’t do so, but they kept looking at the pair of us who were singing, laughing and carrying on like we were insane.

Of course, Fluxx games are pretty inexpensive and come in a wide assortment, so one easy solution is to just have a couple different ones on hand to choose from. Either that or precede game night by watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail and perhaps at least one more film (I recommend Life of Brian!). This will set the tone for the night, and make sure everyone is ready with their coconuts.

“Minister of Silly Walks”

Winner gets to pick one other players to do a silly walk to the kitchen and fetch the next round of sodas and snacks. P.S. – Do NOT do the silly walk back to the table. It usually results in spilled soda and angry fellow gamers, especially the homeowner!

“Play with friends who know Monty Python”

Play this version of Fluxx with friends who know and love Monty Python or all of the card humor will be lost. I tried playing with my 11 year old son and 20 year old niece. Epic fail.

“Explain and lead by example”

This version of the game screams for loss of inhibitions. Make sure you explain to anyone new to the game that singing and quoting and outrageous accents will abound and NO ONE gets away with being quiet. Explain what happened in the past (and do the voices or some song lyrics) and this will set the stage for everyone getting in on the action.

“Hold on to Goals”

If the number of plays permited per turn is low, and you have all the cards you need to win, play the keepers first and then play the goal last. It is easier for other players to get rid of your goal than to get rid of your keepers.
