The rules say to refill the junk yard as soon as someone takes a tile from there. My house rule is to do that except for the last time taken from the junk yard each round because that tile is then discarded at the end of the round.
When placing your workers on the board make sure you can pull in the cards that you are setting yourself to take. Also get rid of the one card per round that you are allowed to get rid of when it is not in your building plans.
This is something I missed my first two plays. The improvements can only be applied and kept if you have a motor and fuel of the same color. It makes sense thematically, but I totally missed it.
You get a bonus at the end of the game for the most consecutive non-diagonal chain of one color (or gray). Keep this in mind when you are planning what to build, because it could easily be the difference between a win and a loss.
The game ends pretty quickly and abruptly so I have decided to shuffle the discarded new tiles once and have those be the final round(s). It may only add one or two rounds, but it makes the cars a little more complete.
