“Patch and patch often!”

Every turn, you get to draw one card and play one card, which makes it nearly impossible to get from a start hand of three all the way up to ten cards without some fortunate draws. However, every time you Patch the timeline, you automatically get to draw a card. As the only win condition that feels really under your control, this is definitely written for the strategist in mind.

So, keep using Reversals to create Paradoxes, then Patch them like mad. Coast your way up to ten cards, and maybe find the Patches you want on the way.

“Let Players Choose Their ID and Mission Cards”

With my gaming groups, I like to deal each player 3 or 4 ID cards and have them choose their ID, and the same thing with mission cards, dealing 2-3 per player. I’ve found that the players enjoy reading the brief backstories on the ID cards, and I also enjoy the increased chances of getting the ‘Crazy Joe’ ID, which always makes the game more interesting, as he wins by having 13 or more paradoxes on the timestream

“Number of players vs. board size”

We have found that unless you have eight or so players, the game gets long and ridiculous with both board related expansions (The Gore Years and Early American Chrononauts). Both are fun and highly recommended though, so we have subsequently made this a house rule:

Prior to starting when playing with less than eight, each player rolls a d20. The player with the highest roll chooses zero to one expansion to use for the first game. After that, winner chooses.

this allows for some diversity and the games don’t get super drawn out.

“Add expansions for more variety”

If possible, try to purchase ‘The Gore Years’ and ‘Lost Identities’ expansions to add some variety. The Gore Years will add another 5/8s of a row to the game, while the Lost Identities adds another 13 IDs.
