This weekend we’re planning to play Dead of Winter by Plaid Hat Games, Jupiter Rescue by Twilight Creations and Lost Legacy: The Starship by Alderac. It’s going to be epic!
– 4 games of Ancient Terrible Things
– 2 games of Eldritch Horror (1 solo & 1 with 4 players)
– 2 games of Mr Jack
– 4 games of King of Tokyo
– 1 game of DiscWorld
– 1 game of Gears of War (solo)
I’m playing a game my wife and I created called “Packing Up And Moving Everything From California To Illinois” (working title).
It’s really brutal, and can be personally intense at times. My wife and I have gotten into several arguments already. But we hope to have a better understanding of our play-styles by the time we’re done with it.
Word of warning, this may be the longest game ever created. We’re going on 4 days now, and we don’t expect to be done before next week.
If we’re still speaking to each other when this is over, we’ll post a review and upload the rules.
EDIT: My wife interrupted me 3 times while writing this. Apparently, it was my turn. If this seems random or incomplete, chalk it up to an immersive experience.
It was a great holiday weekend! Played a good mix of games:
Battlestar Galactica w/Pegasus expansion – Cylon who spoiled the Humans’ plans.
Shadows Over Camelot – The Traitor beat us Loyal Knights.
Formula D – Took first place in a wildly fun race.
Robinson Crusoe (2x)- We failed dismally to survive in both scenarios.
Carcassonne w/Inns & Cathedral expansion – Close game, edged out by a Farmer!
Axis & Allies – My Russian & British armies marched all over the Axis powers on their way to an Allied victory.
Arkham Horror – Defeated Hastur (the once mighty King in Yellow).
Washington’s War – Played the British. America is still part of the British empire.
Got a decent variety in this weekend:
-Timeline
-Hanabi
-Damage Report
-Betrayal at the House on the Hill
-Sentinels of the Multiverse
-Feeling sad that I can’t find a reasonably priced Black Box copy of Glory to Rome
I think we’re going to play some SDE, Smash Up, and Mice & Mystics. Maybe this evening, we might throw in some Forbidden Island and some Dark, Darker, Darkest.
Had a great time getting Avalon out for 7 players. We played 6 games and stopped because of the time, not because we were tired of the game. Great fun.
Tested out Spielbound this weekend as we have our first day of business on Tuesday!
Played lots of games including:
Dead of Winter (& won)
Five Tribes
One night Werewolf
Kingsport Festival
Aguirre
Spin Monkeys
7 Wonders
Crazy weekend of gaming. Might get some more in labor day after doing yard work, but here’s what I’ve done so far.
Friday/Saturday – a round of Alien Frontiers (4th Edition). Just bought this with some birthday money. Enjoyed it, and I can see why people say don’t play with 5 if you have the expansion.
Sunday – Little Devils (ho hum), Homestretch (really fun luck fest), Castles of Burgundy (first time…took forever to play and kind of dry), Slide 5 (nice little card game), BattleLine with the wife, Star Fluxx with the kids and wife (she hated it), and 2 rounds of Love Letter.
Had a great morning with my brother playing Nexus Ops, Battle for Souls, and Star Realms over several pots of coffee!
P.S. I’d love to see Battle for Souls and Star Realms added to the site since I play both regularly. *Still crossing my fingers that someday users will be able to earn the ability to contribute to the site’s game pages through some combination of quest levels.*
So far this weekend, I’ve played 1879 (a 2014 Winsome Games release; short-for-an-18xx, pithy, intriguing; quite lovely), Symbioz (a perfect information game printed in France in 1995), the original Tikal from 1999, Carcassonne: the Castle (the 2003 collaboration with Reiner Knizia) and seven (sequential) games of Coloretto Amazonas (an fluffy little Abacusspiele card game from 2005) against son #2 (he thought he might win if we kept playing. Oops.)
This weekend we had some friends over and played Cash and Guns, Ticket To Ride, and Coup. Cash and Guns and Coup are quickly becoming favorites for mid-sized groups 5-6 players. Both play quickly and are easy to teach new players, we agree with Chaos Man that we need to get Cash and Guns on the site, especially with the new version that just came out. First time playing the original Ticket To Ride, previously had only played Europe. We were all surprised at how different it felt on the USA board, it felt more competitive, particularly over the middle of the Map.
I’ve owned Serenissima (second edition)for some time now and finally got to play it yesterday!
Very similar to Catan, and more so Catan Trails to Rails edition. Like the wide open strategy to do whatever you can to make money.
Dead of Winter

Ended up breaking into a game of Fiasco utilizing the London 1593 playset. Well worth a look if you’ve never played an RPG style game.
Got to play a few games of Icedice. Nothing really spectacular this week.

SUNDAY: Marvel Legendary & Empire Builder.
MONDAY: Shadowrun Crossfire, Discworld: Ankh-Morpork, & A Game of Thrones (2E).
Whew!

And, sadly, not one of those is in this database.
Got in a couple of games of City of Remnants this weekend, really enjoyed it.
