“Box 'Em In”

When placing Political Control (PC) markers, the American player should start placing PC markers in empty spaces adjacent to any British PC markers. Remember, the British player must place PC markers in spaces adjacent to existing British PC markers. If all the spaces adjacent to a British PC marker are filled with American PC markers then the British player is boxed in. The British player will be forced to use an army to flip the American PC markers to his control which takes a good amount of time and cards. As a bonus, if the American player can box in the British quickly enough, then he will control the colony, gain the militia combat bonus and be one step closer to victory!

“Oh that Mighty Navy!”

The Royal Navy gives the British player some huge advantages in this game and the British player should use them to the fullest. The Royal Navy grants British armies a combat bonus for battles in a port space and also allows British armies the ability to move from port to port. Any combat bonus is significant in this hotly contested military struggle. A naval move from port to port allows the British player to reposition an army from across the board and potentially surprise the American player.

The British player can also use a Campaign card as a ‘Landing Party’ instead of activating a general for movement. A Landing Party allows the British player to flip a Political Control marker in a port space free of enemy units. This move could potentially swing control of the colony in the British favor.

With the help of the Royal Navy, the British player should start by dominating control of the coast and then work his way inland. It is very difficult for the American player to regain control of the coast once the British consolidate their hold on it.
