“Drawing bids with the Baron (2-Player)”

This is for when you are bidding to sell your oil and you declare your final bid in an attempt to beat the Baron.

We found that too often, our bid tied with the Baron’s Licences. As the rules only explain what happens when you have more than him or less than him, we made a pretty simple house rule that in the result of a tie, we discard and re-draw the Baron’s Licences (the same number he had before). The new cards are then used, and the player cannot change their original bid.

“Don't Put Your Eggs in One Basket”

When transporting your plumes to the oil companies, you should store your oil at multiple companies. If you place all your oil at one company, it will be too much of a target during the upcoming auction. The other players will certainly run your bid up or make every effort to outbid you to deny you a big score and subsequently force you to sell the excess at a much reduced price during the Overflow step. Splitting your oil among the companies will give you a chance to make money in the current round and any unsold plumes could be sold in a future round instead of wasted.

“Get Your Poker Face On”

During the auctions, don’t be afraid to bluff a little when it comes to the value of the licenses you have. You can’t afford to let your opponents sell their oil without expending a decent value of licenses. Opponents with less licenses will be easier to beat in later auctions.
