Little late in reporting. Stayed the weekend with my old college roommate. Memorial Day weekend has been somewhat of a traditional get together to play games these past several years.
Played some oldies: Lost Cities The Board Game, Bohnanza, Kingsburg and Auf Achse. Also hit up some new ones to at least 1 or 2 of us each session: Las Vegas, A La Carte, Android Netrunner, Montego Bay, Elder Sign, Tier auf Tier (the new round version), Mystery Rummy: Jack the Ripper, Salmon Run, Strong Stuff, and Kids of Carcassonne.
Played a very, VERY close game of Castle Panic with a bunch of young future gamers. They all really enjoyed the game. Also managed to play Police Precinct finally. Fantastic game, even if we lost. Also played King of Tokyo, Undermining a couple of times, Nodwick, and Garden Dice, among others.
I was reminded on Saturday that Arkham Horror is not really an appropriate game when there is a larger party (e.g. people not involved in the game), because it drags on WAY too long with the distraction of other things going on and when not everyone is entirely engaged in the game.
I played Can’t Stop! for the first time and I appreciated the balance of game theory and statistical analysis that goes into it, which changes with the dynamics of the people involved. My friend brought it because he’d seen that I’d acquired a truly terrible game called Toss Up! and very accurately pointed out that Can’t Stop! was kind of like what Toss Up! would be if it were actually a decent game.
Had the monthly game night this past weekend. Smaller crowd, but still lots of great games!
Panic on Wall Street (may be a new party favorite!), Bananagrams, Zen Garden, Polish horseshoes. Wallamoppi & Kingsburg were both played multiple times, Shadows Over Camelot & Pandemic had coop-play succeeding, Shadow Hunters, Viva Java, & Werewolfe had unique team-play, and Endeavor & Catan were classic strategy games.
Also took part of Monday to learn Tzolk’in. Hoping to play it again!
Next, played about two hours of Twilight Imperium.
Finally, universally decided we preferred Eclipse, so boxed up TI mid-game and played a really great game of Eclipse that probably took less time than it would have to finish TI. We’ll probably play TI again, but not for a while.
We got to play Walking Dead (Graphic Novel game) twice and Elder Sign, two times as well. We also got to dust off our old Magic Decks for a bunch of free for all games.
Then we got to play Wits and Wagers at the Family Barbeque. A good weekend for games.
Great weekend! Dungeon!, Zombie Dice and a couple hands of War with my daughter Saturday, and Defenders of the Realm, DungeonQuest and Mice & Mystics with friends on Sunday, with a couple of hours of Bomberman Ultra on the PS3 added for good measure.
I have played King of Tokyo a few times this weekend and I’ve also played Terra Mystica with some friends. I really want to take the chance to “recommend” King of Tokyo to every gamer. It’s a fun game for both experienced and new players.
I had two games of Terra Mystica and this is definitely one of the best eurogames I’ve played! There now exists a video review of it on my YouTube channel for those of you who understand Swedish 🙂
I have just wrapped up at Comicpalooza this morning after introducing mostly newcomers to the wide world of gaming.I started with Defenders of the Realm on Friday and moved on to Saturday where I taught(played when necessary) Salmon Run; Flapjacks and Sasquatches; Empires of the Void; Toc! Toc! Woodman; Keyflower; Bears; Impact City Roller Derby; Geek Dice; Pirate Dice; Das Grosse und Das Kleine A; and a few others I am forgetting in my tiredness, on to today where I finished with Sewer Pirats and Heroclix. Tomorrow I may get together with a few friends and play a few games for myself. I always enjoy teaching games though, so it has been a great weekennd.
My wife and I played Mice and Mystics chapter 1, and although the story ended before we managed to complete it, we both had a fun time. My wife is fussy on the types of board games she enjoys, but this game made her list of play again games.
This weekend has been a good one. Got to play a couple rounds of Vegas Showdown with a small group. When our group grew we played the Resistance. It was a first play with everyone and it went awesome. Hopefully we’ll get to play something else tonight.
I GOT TO PLAY RUNE AGE! Finally able to play Rune Age, I was very exited to play it, sadly my girlfriend wasn’t interested at all. Afterwards we played Carcassonne.
Really, playing Arkham Horror with many angry people wanting to get the cards and game tokens and asking “What game is this?”
My suggestion to play this game is the home of a friend who has a room for games or at least you and your group can get a little alone.
If the site has a sound to put a soundtrack appropriate, even better.

Had a 4-day weekend, and played only three games:
First, played 7 Wonders until everyone arrived.
Next, played about two hours of Twilight Imperium.

We played Puerto Rico, this game is growing on me, a Galaxy Trucker intro game, LOTR DBG and Avalon. The last game I swear I will never figure out!!
