Happy (late) Valentine’s day! This weekend we’ll be continuing down the path of the light and dark side with Star Wars: The Card Game, and then going on adventures and quests with D&D: Lords of Waterdeep.
Did anyone play games for Valentine’s day with a special someone? And as always… What are you playing this weekend?
Today I played a few turns of Combat Commander Europe on vassal. The scenario is called “Rush to Contact” which takes place during April 6 1945 and is a meeting engagement between leading elements of the American 504th Parachute Regiment and the German 62nd Volksgrenadier Divison on the road to the Hitdorf.
The scenario is quite long as so it will take us a few plays to finish it.
The one thing with Combat Commander is you never know what the exact outcome of the game will be until the game is over. So many things can happen during the battle, and usually does.
Combat Commander is one of my favorite games and I always look forward
to the next scenario and for that matter the next expansion.
Now on to Hitdorf!
MAGIC.
Oh, I got Mice and Mystics over the weekend and played the heck out it. Although in solo mode I haven’t fared too well.
I almost bought Fluxx today. But I think I am waiting to buy a theme version of it.
Just played DiXit and DiXit Journey with a couple groups of 7th graders. They loved it! Was so happy to get to play. So awesome. Now I just need 4 more copies so everyone can play!
Well. On Friday we played Pandemic on Heroic Level. Surprisingly, we beat the game for the first time on that difficult level! Then we moved to one of our most loved games: Race for the Galaxy. We played 3 games with the first 2 expansions and some cards from the 3rd one, but without Takeovers nor prestige. On Saturday we started playing Settlers of Catan. Then we played a couple of rounds of Citadels and finished the gaming session playing 7 Wonders!!! 🙂
So my final weekend gaming shaped up as follows:
Pathfinder on Friday evening. We bid farewell to our monk and picked up a goblin barbarian (played by the same person; he wanted a change). We now have only one human in the party.
Picked up Alhambra on Saturday and punched out all the tiles and bits, but didn’t get any gameplay in on it. In the same trip my sister picked up Hisss, and we played three games of that in quick succession on Saturday. I think it’s a really cute game, and even though it’s simple it is one that I don’t mind playing at all.
Sunday afternoon I had a somewhat disastrous attempt at teaching my father Race for the Galaxy. It was a three-player game (my sister was the third player) that morphed into a two-player game after about twenty minutes because my father didn’t want to deal with it any more. 🙁 It’s just too complex for his tastes. Going to try teaching it to my mother next.
Monday was the big game day. We started out with Timeline: Events followed by Timeline: Diversity and then a game of Hisss (six players is too many, btw). After dinner we brought out Lords of Waterdeep, with my parents playing as a team. That game went much better than Sunday’s unfortunate attempt, at least, though it made for quite a late night.
We played Munchkin 3 times:
– Anime Munchkin (Space Munchkin + Munchkin Fu)
– Steampunk Munchkin (The Good, The Bad and the Munchkin + Munchkin Impossible)
– Munchkin At World’s End (Munchkin Booty + Munchkin Apocalypse)
In honor of President’s Day, we played Founding Fathers (Washington & Jefferson), Ticket to Ride: Heart of Africa (weak tribute to TR), and Two Rooms and a Boom (blew up the President).
I played Space Cadets today. Well, I actually got thrown into the game, half way into it. A card saying that a player shall switch place with another, caused me, an on-looker, to find myself right fair smack in the middle of the game! :O It was fun, but seeing that I missed out on the rule explanations, I was pretty much like a fish in outer space! 😛
Also……next week I will be at a game weekend. Then I will get to play plenty of games! 😀
Car troubles ended gaming intentions… perhaps next weekend. 🙁
Catan and lots of digital ticket to ride
We did fairly well over the weekend, with games including The Hobbit boardgame (the Knizia one), Once Upon a Time, Cat Attack, Mr Jack, and Timeline: Discoveries. Moreover, having acquired several new games in the last few days, I actually ended up with fewer unplayed games than I had a week earlier. Not sure how that happened, but I’m glad it did!
played a game of Talisman – kids really enjoyed it. then we played Dixit Journey… about 7 times over two nights! kids really love the game. now i have to buy the other versions to get more cards.
going to try Mage Wars next tomorrow.
I just got Waterdeep and played it for the first time. Unfortunately we only had time for one game, but it was fun I’m looking forward to playing it again today.
Also played DC Deck Building game and Battle Star Galactica.
so much to do this weekend, I only got to get our Saturday evening magic in
This weekend I have mostly been playing …
Egizia Finally getting my head around an excellent yet under-rated title. A granddaddy of the worker placement genre, it makes the mechanically elegant Stone Age seem like cordial diplomacy over afternoon tea. Every move is a difficult decision that has you weighing the advantages of your options over how advantageous those same options will be to your opponents. This must be my favourite game at the minute.
Medici Finally had a game of the old Knizia classic, and the 1995 AMIGO Spiel First Edition in German, as that. As with Ra, the auction mechanic really shines when you’re playing with good friends, and everyone is ‘advising’ everyone else’s play, or lack thereof.
Glory To Rome Really enjoying the Kickstarter Black Box edition, and the dynamic, tactics-heavy play that comes with games that use opportunity costs to balance intentional asymmetry.
On the Filler platter: Las Vegas, No Thanks
GAME NIGHT! Played many games as we filmed our upcoming promo for a board game library and then had 9 more hours of 30+ people playing.
Shadow Hunters, Liar’s Dice, Bananagrams, Taluva, Tigris & Euphrates, Ticket to Ride, Pirate’s Cove, Libertalia, Werewolfe, Settlers of Catan, Castles of Burgundy, King of Tokyo, Takenoko, Carcassonne, 7 Wonders, Pandemic, Agricola, Chicken Caesar, & more!
A wonderful day!
Had some Mice and Mystics with my wife and hoping to get some dixit, king of tokyo, or cosmic encounter going with the whole family.
It is time to play Diplomacy, for the first time in more than 10 years. Will I feel the thrill and suspense or only the frustration? We’ll see…
