This Week’s Explorable Games
This round of Explorable Favorites is from BoardGaming.com member Ktusing. The two games selected from their favorites shelf were:
- Star Trek: Catan
Mayfair Games - A Game of Thrones: The Board Game (2ed)
Fantasy Flight Games
These games will be explorable until next Monday, March 17th.
After you’ve explored these games, let us know what you think about them in the comments below!
The two games are different and I think it is worth playing both.
Well, I will definitely have to get out my boyfriend’s copy of Star Trek: Catan and play it; I quite enjoy both the regular version of Catan and Star Trek, and I want to see how the two combine for myself.
A Game of Thrones looks potentially interesting to me, but also very challenging. I’m not really knowledgeable on the series, though it looks like that isn’t strictly necessary. But the biggest detractor (for me) is the amount of time needed to play, and the requirement for at least three players. It’s just not the sort of game that would appeal to my current game group. Maybe someday, though.
@Jim – Haha! I definitely know how that goes. I’ve been meaning to play Space Alert for almost a month now and it still hasn’t happened. Maybe this weekend.
Thanks for the heads up though. Much appreciated.
@Budgie & Account Deletion, unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to play it that weekend. I’ll make sure and post more info about it once we do.
Two great games! GoT 2nd edition is wonderful. Makes for a memorable afternoon. Basically a better Diplomacy set in the GoT world. Ideal with 6 players and use the twist of fate cards (randomizing the battles).
ST Catan is an ideal Catan for those who want to be done in less than an hour. Just wish they could have had all the colors match regular Catan. 😉
Star Trek: Catan I must own you!
Okay, so I got to play a demo game (5 or 6 turns) of Star Trek: Catan this weekend. My first impression was that it was just another version of Catan, but after about two turns, that opinion changed. I need to play a full game (now-now-NOW!), but I have a feeling that this could become my favorite Catan game.
Gamer Bling does not want to sound like a wet blanket, but he is definitely the Fifth Dentist when it comes to the Catan series. Never liked it. Nice mechanics, but the whole is less than the sum of the parts.
Hooray for two awesome explorations! I think I need to go out and find more games to put on my Favorites, or I’ll never be able to share any Favorites for the Weekly Exploration.
Hey, variety is the spice of life.
Well, something is the spice of life.
I love Game of Thrones, and I’m curious to try Star Trek: Catan. Thanks for putting these up!
Ah, now I understand where all those new likes come from. Nice to see more attention for A Game of Thrones. It’s a great game!
Awesome, thanks for adding Star Trek: Catan, I look forward to lots of reviews to help me decide whether I need it or not!
+1 to @Budgie’s comment – I’m very interested in hearing any opinions on Doom from someone who’s played it.
@Jim – A quick question: Back on 2/7 you mentioned that you were going to play The Doom That Came to Atlantic City. I was just wondering if you got to play and if there was any more information about it. I love Keith Baker’s designs.
Yay! Thanks for bringing back Star Trek: Catan and a reason to look into GoT games. I’ve never played one before and have been curious about the different offerings.
