We really enjoyed our time with Paperback, so we’ll be playing more of that this weekend. Beyond that we’ll probably just wait to see what our group feels like playing.
I usually take a day or two off for the 2 local cons each year to get max value out of it 🙂
Although I’ve never tried the original I think the dice version is absolutely doing what intended, a very nice, quick filler and a friend of mine who has played both clearly prefers the dice version.
In fact one of my favorite moments this weekend was the 2. game where I got to roll twice:
1. 4 dynamites and 1 arrow
2. 3 dynamites, 1 arrow and 1 gatling
@inmarg Holy Double-Take, Batman! Your Friday looks like a good weekend. Kudos!
BTW How did you like Bang! The Dice Game? I just tried it this week for the first time and thought it was far more enjoyable than the card version. Many die-hard Bang! fans do not like it, but I felt it made the game exactly what was intended all along… a fun party game.
@Jay Atkinson I played my first game of Space Cadets: Dice Duel this weekend as well. I found it to be much better than the board game. I must not hate dice after all. They work well with non-strategy games. Designers seem to be realizing that “party games” don’t need to have all luck removed. I think Garfield’s King of Tokyo has actually shifted the industry a bit.
Ended up trying out Fairy Tale, Quarriors, and played a game of Lords of Waterdeep. Also received Mr. Card Game in the mail, but haven’t had a chance to play it yet. I feel your pain, garbled.
Ended up playing some Hi Ho Cherrio, Grape Escape, Mario Memory, Cthulu Dice, Hanabi, Rattlesnake and Chutes and Ladders.
Hanabi seems to work well for my 5 year old, although some more playtime will be in order to determine its legs for the little one. I remember wanting a copy of Chutes and Ladders when I was a kid, and jumped at the chance to buy it for my daughter when I found it on sale.
I can stomach Candy Land and Hi Ho Cherrio and the like, but I have discovered I really dislike Chutes and Ladders. The board is confusing to the kids, I don’t like the spinner (I replace it with a die) and it has no real learning value. Quite a bummer. Still, they like it, so it gets played.
Game night is over (never schedule with spring DST, btw). LOVED One Night Werewolf and I won the last game (8 players) as the Tanner (a first for anyone after 10 games). This was even better with the smartphone app providing the moderator.
Other games included:
Caverna, Catan, Kingsburg, Pillars of the Earth, Werewolfe (30+ players, wolves won both), Battlestar Galactica, Something Different, Star Fluxx, Cash n Gun$, Shadow Hunters, and Liar’s Dice. Fun times!
I have had Robinson Crusoe for a month or so and after looking through the rules quite a bit, finally decided to give it a try this weekend with some solo play to learn it before teaching it. Played first scenario 3 times and won one of them.
Edit: Last night (Monday) got to play Snowdonia and Vikings
The Manhattan Project
What’s he Building in There?
Then if I still have time, I will be playing Heroes of Metro City to distract myself so I won’t go nuts while waiting for the upcoming expansion and bonus packs.
Trying to start my little one on games so a few patient games of Uno are in store. Also have several new games that I am hoping to get to the table with a decidedly more gamer audience. Namely: Suburbia, Libertalia, Core Worlds, and Ticket to Ride. Yes I know I’m getting on the Ticket to Ride wagon late but better late then never right?
GAME NIGHT! Will update the full list later, but we played Caverna & Telestrations last night and tonight I expect One Night Werewolfe to be played a lot (speaking of which, why are none of these Ultimate Werewolfe games listed here? They are a highlight of my monthly game nights.)
Zombie Dice and MTG.

Sentinels of Multiverse, X-Wing Miniatures and Manhattan Project.
Weekly game night featured Dungeon Lords and Yedo.
Got in some smallworld-underground, the witches and mice & mystics with my gf, my sis, her bf and another friend for our first ever games night.
I’m researching my next game purchases:
The Manhattan Project
What’s he Building in There?
Then if I still have time, I will be playing Heroes of Metro City to distract myself so I won’t go nuts while waiting for the upcoming expansion and bonus packs.
This week I played:
-> ZOmbicide
-> Story Cubes: Action
My kickstarter for Mr. Card Game finally shipped friday, so hoping to play that this week. Only a year and a half late, that one. 🙂
Arkham Horror!

A couple of deck building games- Paperback and Eminent Domain.
