Quebec and Last Will kind of went right onto my radar. Especially after my friend showed me his copy of Quebec (beautiful board).
@Jim Thank you very much for the reponse. I do appreciate where you are coming from and I will be patient. It’s just that whilst browsing the site it came to my attention that I own so many games that are pre-2005 which I would love to submit. Could the year listing possibly be widened to 2001, even if it meant that any pre-2005 games are put to the very back of the queue? I think that you would see a LOT more player submissions! 🙂
@Lozmoid, We’re currently focused on adding games from 2005-2012, and yes, we’ve got a decent amount of user submitted games that we’re working on adding to the site. Because of some features we’re working on, in preparation for Gen Con in August, we can’t give a specific time of when a user submitted game would make it onto the site. After Gen Con we’ll have those features complete and can then focus more time on adding games. We do appreciate everyone’s patience as our focus for the past while has been on site features.
@Jim/Board Gaming.com staff: how are you guys getting on with adding historic games (2002 or prior)? Do you still have a large backlog of player submissions to get through? If somebody submitted a new game how long would it take to make it appear on the site? Thank you.
@ bobb33z3r: Summoner Wars is a great game. It was created by Colby Dauch, who runs the Heroscapers website, and anyone who enjoys Heroscape would probably enjoy this one. It it a tight, well-balanced skirmish game with easy rules and a lot of tactical decision-making. The game is amazingly well-balanced, with each faction being competitive, yet playing very differently from the others. You should definitely give it a try.
I’d also recommend the Plaid Hat Games podcast, which talks about the board game industry from the perspective of a small independent game company.
@ Wind Lane: The wait for the app is killing me!
If you’ve got an iDevice, the iOS app should be coming out any day now – it’ll be free to try and is probably going to be a great way to sample the game.
There’s a Vassal version available as well that’s also free.
The game is great though. A minor amount of deck building, but that’s not the focus at all – all the factions come in pre-built decks that are balanced and competitive. Deck building is more about tweaking things to better fit your personal play-style. And the very best part? ABSOLUTELY ZERO BLIND PURCHASE!
Very happy with all of the factions and reinforcements I’ve bought (and I’ve bought them all).
Thanks Wind Lane and Akden, your posts got me to go look up the Summoner War game, very intrigued now! Looking forward to getting a master set and trying it out!
I like the look of Fortuna, but after watching the trailer on the game’s website, I ended up shouting at my monitor about how Julius Caesar was not the Emperor!
I’m pretty sure that was just the marketing folk, but they are still painfully wrong!
(Rob goes and has a sit down and a beer to calm down after one of his buttons has been pressed.)
Really happy to see more Summoner Wars here. I’ve got all my Lord of the Rings LCG stuff in here, it’s a shame that all the Summoner Wars stuff isn’t up as well.
And I’m really looking forward to getting Descent 2nd edition when it comes out.
Thanks for adding the Summoner Wars Expansions. I’m dying for the IOS app for that game. I hope we can add it to this site when it finally comes out.
I love Eaten by Zombies, thanks for adding! I have a few more games to submit, such as Doodle Dice and Days of Steam. Hopefully this weekend I’ll get them submitted. My family loves Doodle Dice. Pure randomness but quick and fun, especially with younger kids.
I haven’t played any of these. Might have the opportunity to try Quebec though.
