This weekend my nephews and I will be making our way through the various expansions for Flash Point: Fire Rescue. Should be a weekend full of adventurous fighting fun!
I put down Sentinels:Digital for a bit (my Tachyon gameplay is on a new level – take that Citizen Dawn!…unless we are in the Ruins of Atlantis) to get involved with being ‘social’ and good old-fashioned tabletop cross-talk:
The Boy showed impressive self-restraint as Arcadia Quest arrived last weekend while I was away and I came home to a box opened only for the purposes of rule book perusal. (There would have been tiny fists of rage otherwise – clever boy). I fell in love with it just sorting it out during the week. We played a learner’s game on Friday, I caught the bug like @Account Deletion, and we plowed through 3 scenarios on Saturday with our friends. Lying somewhere in the middle ground between the cardboard meets RPG dungeon crawl that is Descent and the arcade gaminess of Super Dungeon Explore the light-hearted ‘Competetive DungeonCrawl’ of Arcadia Quest was a well worth it weekend binge. 🙂
This seemed the week of middle grounds as we also received and played a learner’s game ofXia:Legends of a Drift System. It definitely lies between the Space Euro of Eclipse and the 11 hour Ameritrash Opera of TI3. I definitely want to try it with more people as the key idea seems to be a sandbox Fame Point race.
Guardian Chronicles arrived yesterday and has been sorted and rule read. It has a bit of a Tannhauser (The Boy’s shelf) with card play vibe. He seems eager so hot chocolate will be made and I guess we’ll give it a poke. I wanted to play Heroes Wanted tonight…
@Andross NICE! LOL
@Jeff W What? No R9E tourneys???? As a fan of the Dead Gentlemen I recently watched The Gamers:Hands of Fate and fell in love with the whole faux history of the faux CCG. I nabbed the anniversary ‘best of’ on the cheap and just saw there’s a recent expansion. I guess you’re the chap to ask… 🙂
Guess who was at Essen this weekend?
Ohhh yeahh. In no order what so ever I played:
Star Realms
The Battle at Kemble’s Cascade

The Anchient World
World of Tanks: Rush
Mars Attacks: The Dice Game
Golem Arcana
Escape: Zombie City
Speakeasy
Fief: France 1429
Dragon Slayer
Dice Brewing
Terra Evolution
Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Nations: The Dice Game
Tragedy Looper
Five Tribes
Wir sind das Volk!
Age of War
Akrotiri

Ended up doing less demoing than anticipated, but did teach Sail to India and Valley of the Kings, and learned the basics of Cypher and Cheaty Mages should I be called to do this again.
Got to play a decent variety of games, too:
– multiple rounds of Cheaty Mages after learning it
– Doomtown: Reloaded (with friends who came out)
– Airlines Europe (lost by two points!)
– Ca$h ‘n Guns (most hilarious interaction of the night)
– Till Dawn
– and finally wound down the night wrapping back around to Valley of the Kings
The wife and I are playing the Legend of Drizzt board game, the Mutant Chronicles Siege of the Citadel game, Timeline History and Cards Against Humanity.
I received Tiny Epic Kingdoms this week so will breaking that out for the first time. Unfortunately, it will just be the two of us, so we won’t get the full experience.
I played a Memoir 44 homebrew scenario last night, solo, and I will be playing the same today against a friend. We will also play either some Lords of the Waterdeep, or Settlers of Catan, and might finish off the day with some Struggle for Catan Card game. It will be a cool day here in Missouri, perfect for games and Chili!
It was very good! I won the scenario of Memoir 44 last night, but lost the game of Settlers of Catan: Traders and Barbarians- Barbarians variant. I did win a monopoly card game that we played at 10pm.
Today I plan on playing a game of Lords of Waterdeep with expansion.
I don’t know if I will have time, but I’m hoping to get around to Firefly since we didn’t last weekend. I’ve also been wanting to play Munchkin Cthulhu.
Tonight: Lord of the Rings LCG! It’s high time for a hobbit deck, and there’s no better testing ground then “A Shadow of the Past” and “Fog on the Barrow-downs.”
Saturday: Pathfinder ACG: Skull & Shackles in the morning. The afternoon will be spent assembling Space Hulk and with any luck we’ll be playing by evening-time.
Sunday: TBD…but if @Account Deletion‘s experience is any indication, more Space Hulk!
I will be running demos for AEG (Alderac) games at Halfway to Tabletop Day in Palatine, IL on Saturday. The whole day runs from noon to midnight at Durty Nellie’s. Games on hand:
– Lost Legacy
– Love Letter
– Seventh Hero
– Smash Up
– Trains
– Pagoda
– Cheaty Mages
– Sail to India
– Valley of the Kings
– Mai-star
– Doomtown: Reloaded
Played some Hanabi, Love Letter, Once Upon a Time: Storytelling Card Game, and Dixit with some friends from out of town. Good time by all.
We got Star Realms running. Babel, Bang the Dice Game, and Pandemic.

It’s the wife’s rota on family game night, so Carcassonne is de rigeur.

We tried out Star Wars: X-Wing for the first time, not to mention some Death Angel: The Card Came and The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game.
Some City of Remnants, Love Letter and King of Tokyo this weekend around.
Sentinels of the Multiverse will dominate this weekend. Been painting Descent mini’s off and on – over 50% of the way on the base set now.
Eminent Domain: Microcosm PnP
Braverats

Ob1 – that’s a list full of sure winners you got there!
I’m gearing up for a first try of Dungeon Petz tonight and look forward to some social gaming (Mascarade, Resistance) tomorrow night.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
