We just got in our first winning game of Xenoshyft Onslaught last night so that got the early weekend off to a great start! Not sure exactly what we’ll play this weekend, but I’d be very happy to see Forgotten King and Pagoda make it to the table.
What are you playing this weekend?
@Paladin Not that I have played Kingsburg but hugging the expansion I have to agree with Vasel (and I run hot and cold on the Voice of the Tower) – it adds VPP (which is enough for me) and extra ability spots for worker dice, and events. It’s a module expansion, but it looks like it does good. It does seem like a no-turning back like Scoundrels for Waterdeep or Factions (and more crazy tech) for Alien Frontiers. Of course, I also hear you can pretty much just ditch Kingsburg for Kingsport Festival (another hot box on my nab list)
VLLLAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDD! *complete with Wrath of Khan camera up ratchet* Ol Johnny Opera Cape is becoming the Celestial Toymaker of the tabletop. I’m sure he’s quite pleased his reputation precedes himself. I am just glad I know to watch those Fantasy Flight Winter Sales like a hawk now – I thought I was able to grab all the remaining I Runebounds I needed and Gears of War for his Boyship. I do regret not embracing the Worker Placement mechanic before now as I heard Deadwood was pretty good. Now to find Nightfall: Eastern Skies – I don’t even really care for Nightfall but the final expansion is becoming a ghost game and joining the ranks of lost elitism as a member of the Drac Pack
I tracked down Belfort and the expansion – the Jolly Dragon just said it was in scarce distribution limbo for a bit – but I have to wait now as I am in deep on Millennium Blades and Apocrypha is too darn card poundage to miss so my Treat-Yo-Self budget is blown. Besides I can resist the siren call of a Jerry ‘Tycho’ Holkins chapter pack – he’s like my Idol of The Hyper-Articulate.
@Hai: As soon as I got the “Kingsburg expansion back in stock” email from CSI (I have about 10 games set up to trigger those emails), I dropped what I was doing and placed an order. I’ve heard Kingsburg doesn’t play as well without the expansion. To be fair, though, I think it was just Vasel who made the claim, and I don’t always take his word as gospel.
Every time someone mentions Fury of Dracula I die a little bit inside. Matt Loter offered to sell me his copy last year but I wasn’t sure I wanted to spend the asking price (which was reasonable). By the time I’d decided to drop pretty much any amount in the $150 range on ‘Fury or on Colosseum, he’d already sold it.
Some day, Dracula. Some day.
I didn’t realize Belfort was out of print! Hopefully I’ll remember to pack it for Gen Con so we can get in a game or two (some time between the various championship tournaments I’m in).
@Paladin You were smart – I heard the Kingsburg expansion was getting hard to get and fearing a Fury of Dracula sequel (as the F-squared is known to quietly slip a pillow onto the faces of retiring games without much warning) I saw one at my FLGS and snatched it up. Of course, I have yet to get Kingsburg proper – but that isn’t the first time it happened.
Now to get a Yedo and a tweet to the Jolly Dragon of TMG on Tabletop Day assured me Belfort “is out there” and I’ll have a nice workforce of worker placements.
@Strat I am certain they will be a sight to behold!
@ inmarg Lol. I am only painting three steps on all the army figures (base coat, wash, dry brush). I am painting them to bring out some sculptural detail and to easily differentiate the various races. Too much detailed coloring seems to blur the lines in my opinion.
I will do details for the twenty character models however.
Brought Mascarade and Coup along to an impromptu “apps and wine” party with some of The Lady’s dragon boat team. Continued my tradition of shepherding non-gamers into the fold, as by midnight they were all disappointed that it was time to pack up the cards and tokens and catch my train.
Bought MORE Kallax shelving units at IKEA on Sunday to accommodate the ever-growing collection of games that are flowing in from Kickstarter (and occasionally CoolStuff — thanks to them finally getting the Kingsburg expansion back in stock).
@ Stratagon
See you in a couple of years when you’re done painting WotR.
@ HarryCallaghan79
Just one comment about Pathfinder. You might want to consider moving directly to Skull and Shackles because it is a better campaign. RotR adventures comes out a little repetitive compared to the second installment.
If you don’t care to much for the pirate theme you might want to hold back and wait for the third installment where you get to fight D€mons.
Time for qwirkle and love letter BATMAN!
It was so nice and warm today we did some hiking and played a few games of Love Letters on top of the mountain
Also played Fortune and Glory, Bang and Survive Escape from Atlantis back to the chalet
No games planned for tomorrow, I have to repaint the house and the Canadians are playing tomorrow evening
I embark on my own personal unexpected journey into darkness. I am painting my War of the Ring: Second Edition. This weekend is mostly prepping and priming, but I hope to be able to lay down some colors with the airbrush by Sunday night.
This Weekend it will be the second play of our 5 times play Kanban and perhaps we will save the world in XCOM.
@Paladin That’s bragging rights! I don’t know I just can’t ride the Zombicide train although it is well represented and loved in this house with its, I think last count, 4 boxes of joy in our gaming den (Survivors, Zombies, Tiles/Tokens, Spare Tiles/Tokens) and I’m sure the Big Bangers in medieval garb to come. I give it a game or two with each new season and then leave it to the Boy’s Club. I don’t know if is the FPS feel and the running to blue key to open the blue door while blowing up everything in one’s path DOOMy vibe or what, but it seems to take the Y chromosome cake and leaves me with a ‘Why?’. Last Night on Earth remains the last word in zombification for me.
But it sounds like you had a blast…ho ho 😉 I’m sure it was immense fun with @Kassidy and there was much screaming.
@Chris When gaming on a Sunday and not churching, I would definitely say lean in favour of Evolution 🙂
I’ll be heading over to the weekend edition of Baltimore Brews and Boardgames this Sunday; I’ll be trying to find folks to play either Iello’s Steam Torpedo or Northstar’s Evolution, although I’ll probably play almost anything.
@Hai: I killed 15 zombies with one Molotov cocktail. Shooting is overrated.
I will be playing the regular favorites like Splendor, Pandemic, and Targi.
Not too much gaming on deck this weekend with Free Comic Book Day doing its thing on Saturday. Helping out with some helper duties for the kiddos and crouching like Gollum by the MtG counter and whispering Millennium Blades on Kickstarter to anyone getting too close during the down time.
I don’t know what Sunday holds but tonight’s game mechanic is Press Your Luck as I quickly craft a cape with hood from chintz fabric I nabbed at JoFab. Pleats and I are not co-op players
@Harry Pathfinder ACG ’nuff said. Adventure packs, class decks, downloadable scenarios – it’s not just a game;it’s a guild. 🙂
@Paladin: Zombicide: You can shoot some zombies or you can shoot some friends – but you can’t shoot zombies when forced to shoot your friends.
Time to haul out Eldritch Horror. Pouring myself a scotch, putting on some period music, and getting lost (and likely will lose…) in a fave.
@Mr Darcy has a great line-up planned. Love Terra Mystica too but have yet to play Imperial Settlers.
We will be playing “Carcassonne” and “Elder Sign” and a new game to us “Dead of Winter”. I am not normally on to play zombie games but I like the plot of Dead of Winter and hope it lives up to it’s reputation.
