This weekend we’re going to be a bit preoccupied with the new addition to our family, but… we did find a really cool kids game that we’re going to surprise our 4 year old with to help introduce him to gaming. It’s not currently on our site, but it’s called Roll and Play. It introduces dice rolling, card drafting and acting things out.

Currently sitting on the second floor of Indianapolis Convention Center awaiting the official dice role signaling the start of GenCon. Opportunities are nearly limitless. Should get a few games in today. I hope to see many bg.com gamers here. We might even play a demo together.
Dead of Winter
Obviously after the fact, but I we stopped by the Fantasy Flight Game Center to play a few games out of their library (not specifically FF games). I was with my two boys and we were able to get through three games: Escape: The Curse of the Temple, Libertalia and Kemet. It seems that the boys are falling in love with Kemet and Escape. They enjoyed Libertalia, but it was definitely their 3rd favorite of the three.
Manged 1 game of Legendary w/ villains.
This week we tried the Adventurers: Temple of Chac. The first play-through was quick and fun, but I don’t think we’re interested enough to purchase it.
We also played Dominion with some new friends, and hope to play another deck building game that I can’t recall the name of at the moment (superheroes team up to battle super villains…)
The final count for the weekend:
Love Letter, Poo, and Mr. Jack in the office on Friday afternoon.
Dixit, Guillotine, and Tokaido on Saturday evening.
Alien Uprising on Sunday. For six hours. There’s a learning curve.
7 Wonders, Formula D, and hopefully Race for the Galaxy!
I’ve been playing tons of Sentinels of the Multiverse (super-pumped about all of the Wrath of the Cosmos background material that’s coming out) and a bit of Glory to Rome (they really need to get that black box reprinted).
Word on the street is Sentinel Tactics kickstarters will be shipped in the next few days and they’ll be selling the game at GenCon. We’ll see if my copy arrives before I leave for Indy.
Played some awesome games at a wonderful party:
Bang – The Dice Game (x2)
Coup (x2)
Avalon
Trajan
Rise of Augustus (x2)
Just played Battlestar Galactica, 6 Players (all new). Cylons won (of course).
Victory through population extermination.
One civilian ship was lost to a raider early on (costing the fleet 3 population), then Brendan “Hotdog” Costanza (a hidden Cylon, and my character) played a Pilot card action that allowed him to activate an unmanned viper three times in a row.
With a viper just launched on the previous player’s turn, “Hotdog” ordered the viper to the rear of Galactica where three juicy targets awaited. With one activation spent on movement, the remaining were used to fire upon two civilian ships (which intelligence had shown to be carrying toasters, of course). The first ship downed was, arguably, The Zephyr, which cost the fleet 6 population points. The third was a smaller vessel but it dealt the death blow, loosing the fleet three population and damaging Galactica.
We’re continuing to hack ‘n slash our way to victory in our second playthrough of Pathfinder ACG: Rise of the Runelords. We just beat Mokmurian into pebbles at the end of Fortress of the Stone Giants!
And this afternoon I’ll be fiddling around with the newly arrived Dead of Winter in hopes of being able to teach it to the group tomorrow morning. Great fun so far!
What a great Friday! My copy of Dead of Winter arrived. Looks like I will be trying to get this one to the table.
Eldritch Horror at a local meeting. Yay!
Hoping to get 2 or 3 things on the table Saturday, which haven’t been out in a bit:
Kemet
Letters From Whitechapel
Nexus Ops
Or something newer that hasn’t hit the table enough:
Spartacus
Romolo O Remo
Depends on players…
Hosting our first family game night and expecting to have a few families join us for some game time tonight. Everything we have will be out but it will be up to our guests to see what actually gets plaid. We picked up a few new (to us) party games to handle large groups Wits & Wagers and Say Anything and a copy of Hanabi.
No matter what we play we will have a fun night and hopefully spark some board game interest in other families.
I’ll be out in western MA Saturday, which will hopefully involve some morning games with my old crowd before running off to a family reunion. I’ll be bringing Thurn & Taxis, Coup, Dominion and Tokaido.
Then, on Sunday, game day with @Paladin!
Flash Point in the day with the kids, Zombie 15 and Dead of Winter at night.
Keen to play some more Province and Fidelitas, really enjoying both.
Hoping to get in some Pagoda, Vikings, and Belfort
I just received my preorder for Dead of Winter, so I’m planning to open it up and take it for a spin this week-end!
@Paladin Clever boy! Nice dig on my anti-GenCon status since I get all my KS games before you 😛 😉
Now I am triply sad I will not be going Gennyside as The Boy and I can not meet you and The Lady for adult beverages and gaming. 🙁 It would have been fun to meet some personalities from the Dark Interwebs along with some game designers. (And skulk near the G > booth as Shattered Hai)
Well – I just volunteered you for Promo Patrol duty – so thanks!
