I guess our weekend already started because here I am posting this at 1am after an epic night of Myth! It’s not a game for everyone due to its large (sometimes frustrating) learning curve, but if you’re willing to put in the time, the reward is a game that will have you and your gaming group experiencing countless hours of epic adventuring.
Now to take a break from the rule book checking, cooperative playing and long game play times we’ll be playing Scalawag! over the weekend.
What are you playing this weekend?
@Paladin Glad you had a nice weekend!
Fortified Skeletons….hmmmm….from the mouths of babes…
I am back from the beachy wilderness of Maine and it looks like I missed some great conversations on a few discussion threads. I’m going to try to dig them up and respond once I’ve caught up on workload today!
We played Council of Verona on a tiny table at the ever-so-quaint Puffin Inn, and managed half a game of Mr. Jack on the bed before I got frustrated at shifting, bouncing pieces and declared the game a draw.
Luckily there was gaming to be had on the way home. Abysmal weather ruined our chances of miniature golf, so we took a detour and stopped by an old friend’s house in New Hampshire, where Small World and Pandemic were played.
Small World turned out to be an introduction to tabletop games to my friend’s 7-year-old son, who has otherwise only experienced the likes of Candyland and Chutes and Ladders (which they’ve apparently made super hero themed?).
It was my first experience teaching a game to a child, and I couldn’t have been more excited than when he started determining his own strategies with the Swamp Sorcerers, and explaining to his mom how the Fortified Skeletons’ “kill two, gain one” mechanic worked.
@coltsfan – man, wish I had been there. I would have loved to have gotten in a round of Galaxy Defenders. Both my son and I are drooling over it (that and Level 7: Omega Protocol).
Went to Midwest Gaming Classic near Milwaukee. Focuses on electronic gaming and pinball. But there is an effort to get more tabletop gaming introduced. So we ran demos of several games.
Between demoing and playing, this was my list: King of Tokyo x4, Galaxy Defenders, Zolloretto Dice, Dungeon Roll, Zombicide x2, and X-Wing x2.
Pretty much Legend of the Five Rings all weekend, as people are practicing for the local regional tournament next Saturday. Cracked open Smash Up: Science Fiction Double Feature and sleeved it up, but never had enough people free to try out the new factions. Will review once we’ve had a chance to play it — and once it’s been added to the site!
Another empty weekend of gaming. A lot of baseball, a lot of taxes, and a lot of sick family members.
Quite a few rounds of Hanabi and 10 days in Asia with my 13 year old niece and some Memo with my 3 year old, including early today before going to work 🙂
Legendary, legendary, and legendary. Oh, did I mention legendary?
Got in a GURPS and such and prepared to run Call of Cthulhu today. ^_^
Played with @betenoir and @iambfg, again! Get Bit!, Ghooost!, Marrying Mister Darcy (Apparently breaking cannon gets me the win every time :P), Royal Palace, Takenoko and Seasons. Off to *cough*larp*cough* tonight!
Got some ghost stories in and will just have to see what else comes up.
Played Descent: Journeys in the Dark 2nd Ed all night. I’m glad my gaming group is enjoying it because it makes me hopeful I might get them to try tabletop roleplaying some day. No hurry though because Descent is a lot of fun.
Ended up playing a bunch of Sentinels, plus Mr. Card Game (better than I expected), Alhambra, Eminent Domain (first time and really enjoyed it). Probably some more Sentinels tomorrow to cap it off.
We started the day with the Pathfinder Adventyre Card game where we made it through the first scenario of the second deck. Then we picked up Alhambra today for $18 at Chapters so we gave that a whirl. We finished the night with a couple rounds of Quantum. So far a great weekend!
Not sure what we’re playing tonight, but here’s what I’m bringing: Carcassonne, Star Fluxx, Descent Journeys in the Dark 2nd Ed.,Pathfinder Beginner Box, 7 Wonders, and Lords of Waterdeep.
@Rich…! We did get it played last night (Blueprints). My son and I figured it out and played through just one round. We then set it up and played with the whole family. Everyone really enjoyed it. It looks simple – just building the building on the blueprint. But the building materials and ways things are scored really make it interesting. I am glad we picked it up.
My girlfriend and I are going to our local board game cafe to finally play Twilight Struggle. I’ve been looking forward to trying it out for a while now.
@Akden – Happy Birthday!
@Akden A Happy Birthday to you! May you receive a Gamer Cake!

It’s my birthday this week-end, as well, so I’m hoping for some celebratory game-playing. Last night, we played Forbidden Island and King of Tokyo with the Power Up expansion. I’m pretty confident that I’ll be coming away with a copy of Star Realms and Suburbia after the festivities, so I’d love to give those a test run? I also might get in a game of the DC Comics deckbuilder. Keeping my fingers crossed…
