My pre-order copy of Flash Point: Fire Rescue came in the mail last week! I played the family rules and thought it was a great version to get new comers into the game, as well as a version simple enough for younger kids to play! Looking forward to getting some of the more advanced games in to see how the different roles work.
I’ve also been tweaking my red/green LOTR LCG deck. I’m going to get some 1-player games of that in as well 🙂
What’s everyone else excited to play this weekend?
Good read! 🙂
Just played my newest game in my collection..1960..The Making of the President..got to rewrite history as Nixon beat Kennedy soundly..
@Ray Gans
Fantastic! Thanks for the link! I think the missus is making gingerbread cookies this weekend too!
Lord of the Rings: TCG came a day early! Well a Happy St. Nicklaus Day to me! Now on to read the rules….
@b0bb33z3r Run For Your Life Candyman! is boardgame put out by Smirk and Dagger. You can download the rules from their website. It’s a lot of laughs but most fun if you use edible gingerbread cookies to take damage. We decorate them with frosting and candy bits — and use red decorator gel/icing to mark wounds.
I’ve been playing StarCraft: The Board Game this whole weekend and I’m hooked!
I also got to try out the expansion and am very impressed with it. Will be writing a review on it soon.
@Ray Gans
I would be interested in hearing the rules for that. 🙂
Some years back, my friends and I came up with some a few extra rules for Candyland at Origins one year. We made it so that you could have any number of players (I think our biggest game in the general gaming area was up to 17). The key was that you had to bring your own token (penny, lint, paper clip, stone, etc all were acceptable), you sat around the table in the order you came, but the turn order was based on age, so play didn’t “rotate clockwise” but zigzagged all over the place, and you had to remember when it was your turn, if you moved out of turn, you were removed from the game (which happened surprisingly often!) Also you had to land on the last purple space exactly, double purple sent you backwards if there was only 1 left as did any other color that wasn’t in front of your piece. Lastly all character cards sent you to that character’s spot, regardless of where you are on the board ala the old rules, not the new ones. A late game Plumpy could be disastrous! The game only got more fun the more people joined in, and it was all sorts of random strangers with piked curiosity who came over. We made a lot of friends that day and had a blast with a game made for 4 year olds. 🙂
I’m still in the honeymoon phase with Power Grid so we got that out this weekend. I used a strategy that I found on this website and won handily!
Our D&D campaign continues tonight, so that’ll be a blast as well!
So does playing blocks with your niece and nephew count? Otherwise I’m getting LOTR:LCG on tuesday, so that should be cool playing some solo games as I learn the game!
Well it’s December and that’s the time our gaming group breaks out Run For Your Life Candyman! For those who don’t know, this is a vicious rethinking of the game Candyland that adds guns and knives (and player death). We play with real gingerbread men, decorate them and bite off body parts after they take too much damage. Obviously not a game for everyone, but with a few beers and the right group, it’s a blast!
Had a good session at Afternoon Play #14. Tried Puerto Rico for the second time and did not lose. In fact, I came second!
Then cracked open the latest Ticket to Ride expansion, Asia. Played the Legendary Asia board with two teams and trounced the opposition. Team play adds an interesting new wrinkle and for one team, neither of whom are fans of the game, it was an improvement.
Well today is our board game White Elephant party, so pumped to try out Strain and tulipmania out, looking forward to seeing what other people bring.
Just played tribune for the first time, it was two player, interesting game, probably going to be better with more than 2.
Played a bunch of games of Heroscape and I’ve been playing the free computer version of Race For the Galaxy a ton lately. I might have a problem.
Just finished cleaning up after the DnD group. Had a great time and we ran a few hands of Three-Dragon Ante for the heck of it at the end. Great time.
Got schooled in both World Without End and Jab.
Started early with some Macao on Thursday night. Then some last-minute playtesting of One Way Out before it goes off to the publisher. Again.
Friday night was my mainstay – 7 Wonders. Introduced several new players. Eager to play with them again tonight – I’ll introduce them to the Leaders, Catan, and Manekken Pis.
We’ll likely get into some Gang of Four and Rage.
I’m visiting with friends this weekend and hope to introduce them to both Dominion and Race for the Galaxy. I also brought along Seven Dragons. We already played several games of Magic, and we had a session of Pathfinder. Good times.
Afternoon Play here in Birmingham takes places tomorrow, so I plan to attend that. There are still plenty of games that I want to try, but I will be taking along a copy of Ticket to Ride and its latest expansion, Ticket to Ride: Asia. I really want to try both boards, but I think that the new team play will be the one that everyone will be interested in.
A game or two of Arimaa for sure. 🙂
Then I’m going to to visit my friends for a few rounds of Quarriors (with both Quaxos and Demons expansions) and a game of Caylus (I love the Premium Edition!). That’s for Saturday. I hope to play somewhat longer tomorrow. Perhaps Through the Ages?
I shall be GM’n Warhammer tomorrow, and maybe get in another game of Hollowpoint. On Sunday, the family will be breaking in our new copy of Flash Point.
I’m also considering having a conversation with my bank account about purchasing a copy of Risk Legacy. The game looks pretty inventive… but my bank has stopped shooting money out of the machine thingy for some reason. It just beeps.
