This Week’s Explorable Games
This round of Explorable Favorites is from the BoardGaming.com member that currently is in 3rd place for most Gamer XP, Wind Lane! The two games selected from his favorites shelf are:
- Tales of the Arabian Nights
Z-Man Games - Dungeons & Dragons: 4th Edition
Wizards of the Coast
These games will be explorable until next Monday, January 13th.
After you’ve explored these games, let us know what you think about them in the comments below!
A system of beliefs of the players about some board games (not the comments) would be interesting.
Perhaps it is also useful for players know players close to match a game right?
I agree with Wind Lane. Also, it will be interesting if we could have notifications from comments too.
I agree Bit and Bot Massacre. Also Jim, I’m sure if you needed any help with content I’m sure a lot of this community would love to help with articles and such.
Wow Andy, that list is impressive.
I have been enjoying my time here on the site, and without it, there are games I would have never experienced and/or purchased. Then again, my wallet might be a bit fatter…
Some examples of games I now own that I learned about through explorable games are;
Lords of Waterdeep
Toc Toc Woodman (technically, the Click Clack Lumberjack Kickstarter, which I also learned about through the news feed)
Kill Doctor Lucky
Elder Sign
Zombicide
Defenders of the Realm
Castle Panic
Mage Knight
Keep up the good work guys! I know a site like this can be hard work, especially when you have a full time job aside.
pastorj, you got to play Dungeons & Dragons 1st edition or the second edition (AD&D)?
If I had known you would change your mind about the 4th edition.
I have played D&D off and on for a couple of decades now, and really like the newest edition. I know there are a lot of hardcore D&D’ites that don’t like the system, but each to his own.
I saw the Dicetower crew playing Tales of Arabian Nights and thought it looked like a lot of fun… Definitely going on the want list!
I second both those points. You are doing an awesome job on the site. It looks great and is a ton of fun. My only complaint is that I haven’t had more time recently to add more reviews and content.
It would be nice to have the notifications back, though…
Jim
You guys have been doing a great job. Only thing I can think of that needs doing is the return of notifications.
As someone who works in an expanding to nationwide chain of board game stores, and spends most of his free time playing tabletop games of all types, I can definitely say that this is my definitive website for board game reviews and what not.
It’s a clean, beautiful, and fun website, with a leveling system, and a fantastic community. I haven’t seen any aggression on here yet. The layout makes sense and is easy to navigate, unlike some OTHER board game websites. I constantly point customers new to the hobby towards this website.
I’m not as active as I’d like to be here, what with my time being consumed by selling, playing, and teaching board games (I know, my life sounds hard right?), but I certainly won’t be going anywhere else, because this is the site to be.
Thanks Account Deletion!
I’m planning on having an upcoming Your Turn discussion be about the website (what everyone likes, what you’d like more of, etc).
@Jim –
I hope I speak for many here in stating that you’re doing nothing short of building the most engaging online tabletop community… and that’s a marathon, not a sprint. Anything we can do to keep you guys invigorated and enthusiastic is a must!
As an aside, I love that internally-linked comments aren’t being held up in moderation any more, and changing the displayed reviews and tips to 12 per page (from 10) to cut down on clicks is another nice touch!
Hey all, I just had to chime in and say how AWESOME you all are! We have ups and downs and it’s a lot of work to maintain and expand the site. It’s because of you that we are constantly inspired to keep working hard to make the site even better.
Looks like I missed the June and July 2012 explorables. I learned about this site from Jay Little (designer of X-wing) at GenCon 2012. I thought when I joined I looked at the old articles and thought I was caught up on explorables but I guess not!
Yeah, that explains it. I found out about this website at GENCON 2012, and so I missed the June and July Explorables.
GENCON is a great way to get more exposure, imo. Hope to see Boardgaming.com at GENCON 2014!
Thanks, Andy, for the list! Looks like it hurt when I was away for a week during the Oct. 28, 2013 this past year. Oh well, 62 so far!
Here’s the best list I could assemble, this should be close to complete. Games that were explorable multiple times should show up here with their most recent appearance.

I went digging through old updates to see how many Explorable Games I could find listed.
There have been quite a few that have been listed multiple times (including Battlestar Galactica which may have been used 3 times). Due to this, I may have some double counting, but I tried to make sure I counted each game once.
By that count, I believe there have been 86 different games that have been explorable, going back to June 4, 2012. I have some recollection that a couple of those games did not have enough content to complete (Hooyah: Navy Seals Card Game and Uncharted stick out to me as not having been possible).
The big Cooperative Games lists came out sometime around September/October of 2012, and it appears there have been 66 games starting with those lists.
Hmmm, I must have missed two then. I’m currently at 64.
@Mat –
I believe 66 is the correct count if you’ve started on this site during or after Q4 2012. Those who have achieved Treasure Chest have been around longer than us, and the games they got to explore were “shut off” after a time (I believe they used to do large groups of games monthly, but this ended with the still-explorable Cooperative Collection).
A few months back, I actually visited the pages of all 1300+ games on the site to see if there were any hidden explorables. I found a few this way, and those got me to the same 66 as you. It is possible that I got bleary-eyed and missed one or two.
@coltsfan76 –
I know you’ve been around much longer… my guess is that you’ve missed a few that others of your tenure got. Several of the top-10 have achieved Treasure Chest.
@Mat
I have been following the explorables pretty much from the beginning and only have 67 explored. 75 is just the next goal.
