This Week’s Explorable Games
This round of Explorable Favorites is from BoardGaming.com member gamerbling. The two games selected from his favorites shelf were:
These games will be explorable until next Monday, February 24th.
After you’ve explored these games, let us know what you think about them in the comments below!
SET is one of my absolute favorite games from childhood and I still think it holds up. I love to break it out every now and then.
Guildhall needs a lot more love here. Are there really that many people here who have never tried it? Y’all are missing out.
@Andy, have you looked into Swish? It’s a lighter version of Set, but uses the same principle and the difficulty level can be adjusted with minor changes in card pairing rules. You could try that, and set a handicap (doubles for her, triples for you) to balance it out, if necessary.
The best part about SET is you don’t have to treat it as a competitive game if you don’t want to. Just lay out cards and practice identifying the obvious and non-obvious patterns; some people may think of it as work, but it’s a neat brain exercise, like working out Sudoku or doing a crossword.
Set is a game I would like to get and play, but it’s a game my wife really dislikes. It feels more like work than fun for her (while I find it fun and enjoyable).
I’ve looked at SET before and have been planning to pick up a copy in the near future. This just cements it. I hadn’t spent any time reviewing Guildhall until now, so it’s nice to see something that had previously escaped my attention.
@Johan Guildhall is definitely worth the purchase. It can get long, but you can adjust the winning conditions to fit your preference. I think someone who loves Smallworld would like Guildhall if they like card games as well.
Guildhall review is up — much earlier than I expected to have time for it.
Logged in to see “27 new likes for your reviews!” and was so confused, as I haven’t posted one in a while. Thanks, SET, for nudging me toward that next reviewer badge!
The best thing about multiple reviews is that once someone explains the rules you can usually skim thru that part on someone else’s reviews. And yet, there are sometimes clarifications that pop out.
In other words, there are never too many reviews.
Okay, so maybe Settlers of Catan has too many reviews…
I put together a quick review. I would’ve been more detailed but gamerbling really said it all.
Also, I wish there was a way to play this online somewhere. I would absolutely challenge gamerbling. I need more people to play this with.
I’ll try to get a review up for Guildhall during the week, since y’all have kindly clicked on my multiple Tips.
Yay! Fifteen minutes of fame!
The best thing I can say about Guldhall is that the Gamer Bling Official Companion grokked the rules on the first explanation and immediately began kicking butt.
Guildhall needs more love here. 🙂
More reviews to Guildhall…
Shame Guildhall is only explorable for those who own and play the game, a little counter intuitive 🙂
Hopefully it will get some people interested enough to review a game they love!
Nice explorables, I like the choices.
Guildhall probably needs a review or two to complete though.
I really like the idea of having 1 older game and 1 fairly new game to explore. It gives me the chance to look into some new games I might have ignored and it will give newer players a chance to look into the games that got myself into the hobby in the first place.
Nice that you have choosen two cardgames but yet to so differents. SET I just don’t think will give me any personal pay off but once again the positiv reviews make me interested. Guildhall on the other hand looks really fun and I will kindly request people who has played this to give thier reviews. I like to read as many reviews as possible before buying a game.
