Is it me or is City of Remnants no longer explorable? The Explorer pop up at the bottom of the game’s page is no longer there. Are there time limits on these explorable games? Thanks.

I haven’t put any money into Android: Netrunner, but I played the original when the CCG first came out. I like the idea of reviving “never-should-have-been” CCGs as LCGs, especially given that Magic is now 20 years old. A lot of CCGs, from the utterly worthless to the superlative, with everything in between, have fallen into the dustbin of history, and some of the IP could stand to be repurposed.

With all the strange censoring “*”‘s on the Cyclades page, it sort of feels like Android: Netrunner may have hacked it to get all the attention!

I’d be interested in playing Android: Netrunner, but Cyclades didn’t seem like it would be for me.

Anyway we can still show City of Remnants as explorable on this page. Still need at least one more review to close that one out. People might be forgetting about it since it isn’t listed here.

@Jim: I appreciate you looking into this. Even if you don’t have the ability to turn off the filter in any way, it would be really useful to know what it’s going to filter. I feel bad when I spend time to write a review and then later look at it and see a bunch of stars that make it confusing to read. If I knew ahead of time it was going to censor a word, I could find an appropriate synonym instead.

Hi Jim. Thanks, that’s great. It’s probably only a few words that really cause problems, and the g-word is certainly at the top of the list. 🙂

Android: Netrunner is really popular in Southern Orange County. There’s an entire meetup group dedicated to it with a bunch of great guys and gals. I’m a bit hesitant to take the plunge and invest in it but it is pretty fun to play and watch.

@ garbled & Rob Harper, I hear what you’re saying about our automatic filter. We’re looking into seeing what flexibility the filter has and if we can allow certain words to not get filtered automatically.

I love the additions this week. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I find myself desiring Cyclades, despite the game’s area-control principle (which I typically find unappealing). I’ve known for a long time that I would enjoy Android: Netrunner, but I just haven’t had the occasion to pick it up yet. It’s on the wishlist now.

+1 to garbled’s comment about the site’s censor. I understand the wish to keep the site family friendly, but given the subjects of many of the games (which may offend some people, I’ll grant you, but some people are offended by kittens) those asterisks can get silly. Cyclades is one good example of a problematic game. And how about Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer?

@ Johan

I too was slightly put off by the theme in A:N and held back a while before giving in to the hype and realized it is a very good game as long as both are on similar level. I have no intentions to pick up more than the base game though as I get my deck building fix from LotR:LCG.

I will admit that the theme of a game means a lot to me. I am very much into mytology so no surprice I like Cyclades but Android: Netrunner not so much there I rather play Magic: The gathering but when that is said I see some reviews that praise Android to the sky so I defently try it out if I get the opportunity.

For once I have played both games…maybe that’s why I completed my Treasure Chest badge!

I noticed that Cyclades’ reviews were a little difficult to read, because the g-word was *’d out everywhere. I can understand the auto-censoring for swear words, but with some of these words, it seems like it just makes conveying things difficult. Especially with the thematic nature of many board games. Is there a list anywhere of what words get auto-censored?

I played Magic for years and loved it, but once I played A:NR, there was no going back. It’s obviously not as wildly popular as Magic, so it might be difficult to find somewhere to play in tournaments near you and such, but it is the clearly better game in my opinion. Even if all you bought was a core set and played casually, it’s worth it. Not that I’m trying to encourage a game buying binge or anything (I have a pacing myself problem too).

Nice choices this week with the explorable games 🙂

I’m really keen to grab Android: Netrunner, but I’ve only just bought some MTG and Lords of Waterdeep so I have to pace myself.

I’ve played a lot of card games (CCGs, LCGs, and more traditional card games) in my life, and Android: Netrunner is hands down the best, in my opinion. In fact, it’s currently my favorite game I own. I actively try to recruit as many people as possible into playing it, so I’m glad to see it as an explorable game to help spread the word. Now maybe some of the expansions will eventually show up on the site *wink wink*.

Cyclades is a game I’ve been very interested in, but I’ve yet to take the plunge. Maybe this week’s exploration will push me over the edge. Either way, these are two great explorable favorites as far as I’m concerned.
