Ticket to Ride

Ticket to ride is a great game. It’s as simple as any game could be. It will actually take you longer to set the game up than it will to teach someone how to play. The game is simple you have to take some colored cards and use them to play your trains on different routes that are printed on your ticket cards. I used this game to introduce my wife to tabletop gaming and She absolutely loves it. Thanks to this game she has been willing to try out other games that I have gotten into my collection. What makes this game stand out to me is the fact that it is so simple in design, beautiful to look at and easy to play. This is a great game to get the whole family together, sit down, play, and have a great time. This is also an awesome game to get your non gamer friends to try out some tabletop gaming. I highly recommend that anyone that has someone in their household that they would like to get them into their hobby pick this one up. This will sit rather nicely next to your other games and will get picked up often.

Arkham Horror

Arkham horror is a co-op game set in the lovecraftian universe. It plays 1 – 8 players and takes about an hour and a half to two hours to play. The reason why I picked up this game was I wanted to get something that I could play by myself, in case my wife was too busy, as well as something that we could play together and with our friends. My first run through the game was pretty cool although I did end up losing due to the fact that I was too conservative in not going after monsters. My second attempt went far better and I had loads more fun playing it through. I will say that from looking at the instruction manual that they make the game sound waaay more complicated than it actually is. I noticed this fact in how many times I had to rereference the manual while i played through it. Although for people that really want to try this out I suggest heading over to board game geek and downloading some of the cheat sheets that the community have made for the game. After I played it a few times I decided to take it to my gaming group to see how they would like it and they really got into it. Everyone of us stood around contemplating our moves and coordinating what we would do to make sure that the dark one would never arise. It was a great time had by all and we definitely will want to play it again. I highly recommend that anyone that is looking for a good horror themed game that isn’t about zombies pick this one up. I look forward to picking up the expansions myself. Oh one last thing make sure you have a pretty big table to play this on as it does take up alot of space.

Galaxy trucker is the latest game to my collection. When I bought this game I went blindly on others opinions and it sounded like a game that would be great fun to play. Boy was I right. Galaxy truckers is a game that will have you and your friends rolling at the floor laughing as well as crying when you see what the space travel portion of the game has done to your wonderfully built ship. The game is simple to learn and great fun to play. The build phase has you and your friends scrambling to grab parts and place them on your ship. The faster you finish your ship the sooner you get to go. It is great to be in the middle of building your ship and hearing one of your buddies cursing at the pieces he is getting as he realizes that he cant place it on his ship. Also the game makes great use of a timer to let you know that time is not on your side when it comes to building your ship. The flight phase of the game is usually where other reviewers have said that is the low point of the game but I actually enjoyed shuffling the cards, dealing them out, and flipping them over one at a time to see what dangers awaited us. Hands down this game is quickly becoming one of my favorites and look forward to purchasing the expansions to this game soon enough.
