We received some awesome packages this week – RYŪ, The Little Prince: Rising to the Stars and Ultimate Warriorz from Asmodee, and the complete Clockwork Wars from Eagle/Gryphon. But they’ll sadly collect dust for a week as we pack up and take the kiddos across the country to visit Grammy and Grandpa. At least we have something to look forward to when we get home!
What are you playing this weekend?
My 5-year-old son just schooled me in King of Tokyo. Fiercely rolled a bunch o’ claws. Will play Mage Knight later tonight. That may be the most complex game I own…
Looking at Shadow Hunters board game, maybe Rum and Bones. Mayne have a crack at Gates of Antares or more likely Skyrelics board game Playtest.
Good thing is you spot what other people are playing and if not known take a look. Always manage to spot something new.
Spent the weekend painting miniatures for games and also working on turning the basement into a game room, so I didn’t get any actual playing in; however I am looking forward playing games in this renovated space.
I played a game of Tide of Iron, a scenario from the Designer Series scenario book. My wife and I also played a game of “Take the Train”, a card game.
Played a Machi Koro with harbour expansion twice, 2 games of Get Bit!, Zombie Dice , Carcassonne, Exploding Kittens, and Alhambra. Plus some digital games of Splendor, Carcassonne, and Small World (new purchase this weekend) in the mornings when no one else was awake. Wish every weekend could be this good! 🙂
A lazy co-op Sunday with The Boy and two rounds of Mistfall in which the mists fell and not in the good way. The characters are varied and very interesting to play, but some don’t play well with others it seems at least in the limits of two players.
Last night took Evil Hat’s Don’t Turn Your Back for a test spin. Cool blend of card play meets worker placement in a tight VP side salad.
And now I’m going to eat ice cream and get but butt kicked in Tash Kalar which is nothing new. At least Chunky Monkey is far from abstract in the yummy department
I had to work this weekend but I played a game of Concept on Saturday night and just settling down to a game of Thunderstone Advance with the Missus now.
I played some games of Timeline(The Americana and American History versions), some Magic: The Gathering Arena of the Planeswalkers, some games of Keyflower: The Merchants, and a game of Roll through the Galaxy.
I have played Five Tribes on Friday, four times Hanabi on Saturday and today, and also Se hva jeg kan! a knowledge game for kids (with kids…) and then Alchemists today.
Good old fashioned catan. Both rivals and settlers during a relaxing weekend away. Life is good.
Codenames has been getting a lot of time on the table lately. My gaming group has been enjoying it immensely 🙂
@tyjenks
Mage Knight is very intimidating to start, but once you have a few plays under your belt it is a good game. I have three kids so the time was the issue for me. If you enjoy the game I can’t recommend enough the Broken Token organizer for it since it makes set up easer and finding things during the game easer. It saved me quit a bit of time, which was very important in my situation.
Got a game of Transylvania in tonight, not sure I will get anything else in this weekend
Sat down and played Secret Code 13 + 4 with my 3rd grader. This is a great Math game, that I cannot recommend enough for homeschool kids.
@inmarg and @Cyberman
Thanks for the responses. Had chores/errands all day and plan to dive in tonight. I watched a guy (Rick Royal maybe?) do an intro play-through on YouTube so I can be at least familiar with the basics and he also has a play-through of the solo scenario, but I am going to go ahead and give it a try.
@Gamefunk: My youngest (9 y.o. daughter) keeps begging us to get back to PACG as we love it. I am also loving playing Arcadia Quest with her and her 14 y.o. sister.
It’s a lazy kind of weekend for me so I think I’ll just kick back with Onirim. And that’s it. Just Onirim. Period.
Busting out Pathfinder Rise of the Rune Lords this weekend.
@Tyjenks I’ve played through Mage Knight a few times and still mess up a few rules. While I’m enjoying it, I haven’t experienced that immersive feel as some of the rules are getting in the way.
Battlestar Galactica is one of my faves at the moment. It also has plenty o’ rules, but there’s a natural flow to the game (imho).
Am starting a campaign this weekend of End of the World: Zombie Apocalypse!
Speaking of Vlaada I got to test out his new game Codenames at a local con yesterday. Also got in a couple of games of Nations:Dice game, Factory Fun before finishing the evening with a 5 player marathon of 1889 Japan with the top 3 separated by only 22 Yen (around 5200 every one). I’m loving the 18xx family more and more despite totally blowing it yesterday.
@ Tyjenks
Mage Knight is an incredible game when you get the hang of it. Soloing the walkthrough is probably the best way to start to get the hang of it when you get to the playing point and you’re likely to miss a few of the fiddly rules. Took me about 10 games to get really comfortable with it.
