A week of new arrivals means a bunch of first-time games this weekend. Kickstarter deliveries of The World of Smog: On Her Majesty’s Service and Migration (both look gorgeous) are certain, as we’ve tackled the rulebooks to both already. And a surprise package from Steve Jackson Games containing Car Wars: The Card Game and Munchkin Oz (a Target exclusive) will get the unboxing treatment as well as a play or two.
What are you playing this weekend?
@strata
I may just take you up on that offer 🙂
As I just have the 1.edition + BotTA I’m however slightly tempted by the latest Anniversary Edition they are pumping out. Still 400$ for a game is quite a steep price tag…but as it is one of absolutely favorites…
@ Hai
What??? You played Secret of the lost Tomb, lucky you, I didn’t receive my tracking number yet.
Solo plays of Glass Road, Gates of Loyang and Shadows of Malice + learning Unrdercity The Iron Kingdom
@inmarg
Thanks! I’m down to the final seven figures to complete my WotR painting. Just the villains left. I’m itching to play with the new colors. I agree it is annoying when you cant tell the factions apart. And they all have great sculpts on them, it is a shame to look at the board and just see blue and red masses of plastic.
If you really wanted to modify your set, send me a private message on one of my sites. I could paint some of them for you, or I have a few low skill/low time ideas you could do that may still help you get some variety.
@Hai Beautiful and sassy was what I was aiming for. I’m glad you like how she turned out.
In other words I’ve gotten trounced by Smaug (On the Doorstep) and Into Ithilien (DL=4?!?…) in LotR:LCG in second half of the weekend.
While I doubt I could have beaten Smaug the way it looked, when he got to hit me for 5 attacks in one round I knew where it was heading 🙂
@ Stratagon
Impressive painting job. I really wish I had the skills and more important, time to learn the painting skill 😉
Especially the WotR bothers me as I have the 1. edition and the figures are sometimes hard to separate.
Saturday we faced Sloppy Joes and Co-oppy Foes
Played a starter game of Secrets of the Lost Tomb – an interesting blend of Betrayal at the House on the Hill, Fortune & GLory, and a dash of Arkham Horror.
Then we got trounced in a starter of Mistfall, enjoyed it, and got trounced again. It is a bit of an iconography avalanche at first, but it comes round to intuitive. I like the nod to Pathfinder:ACG card burial as hit points and the deep and different characters don’t quite approach Darkest Knight but there will be of plenty to explore.
Can’t lay bragging rights to surprise boxes from Stevey J or anything, but I did get my Pathfinder mini in return post from Le Artiste’ @Stratagon and she looks beautiful and sassy. 🙂
I played a game of Lords of Waterdeep, Coup, Sushi Go!, and a couple games of the resistance on Saturday. I picked up Belfort and got to play a game of that as well. Finished off Sunday with a game of Ascension with my girlfriend.
Last Friday night, I introduced a friend to Machi Koro and he brought around Exploding Kittens to play. On the Saturday, we also played a couple of games of Flash Point: Fire & Rescue, which was great. First game we won, the second game the building caved in us 🙂
Then for the rest of the weekend, my son just wanted to play Exploding Kittens. He picked it up from the first play through and ended up beating us just about every game too.
My wife and I introduced Machi Koro+ harbor expansion to 2 of my friends and we had a great time! It was my first time playing with 4 and it was very enjoyable.
Machi Koro and expansion. Can’t get enough!
Oh, and Würfel Bohnanza has been played maybe 15 times this week.

Picked up six new games for us and playing the heck out of two of them. First, I found The non Zman Cacao here at our game store and everyone loves it. Got 3 plays in of that. Also sitting on the shelf in the midst of many Funkenschlag maps was another 2F Spiele game, Finstere Flure or (fearful floors). SUPER sweet dungeon run. Whole family is into this one. 4 plays of that.
Then, a friend sold me four late 80s/early90’s TSR and AvalonHill games that we’ll try to find some time digesting.
But thumbs up for Cacao!
Mike
No gaming this weekend, but I have been working on painting miniatures for Imperial Assault and War of the Ring. Some are for my collection and a few are for a commission client. Links to pictures are available from my home page if you want to see!
Good gaming today, So Epic Spell Wars, Smash-up, and King of Tokyo with friends, and then some Patchwork and Fallen with the spouse at home.
I played some Settlers of Catan: Traders and Barbarians, last night. My wife won, a rousing scenario of “The River of Catan” I tied her late in the game by building a city and a settlement, but she got an impressive six cards on the last roll and was able to smash me! Tonight I plan on setting up a solo game of Memoir 44 or Tide of Iron.
Started the weekend by clearing the second adventure pack (Sword of Valor) of Pathfinder:Wrath of the righteous. All 5 in one evening…
Going to play a wide mix this weekend. Batman Fluxx, Splendor, Exploding Kittens on the “lighter” side and Warband, Keyflower: the merchants, and Magic the Gathering: Arena of the Planeswalkers on the heavier side. We’ll see how many I get through today.
We’re getting the band back together this weekend. The plan is for some Zombicide, Descent and a new kickstarter game Mistfall which just arrived this week!
Just beat our first map of zombicide and we feel epic! It came down to one man making it while the other two were sacrificed. My job doesn’t give me the feeling of accomplishment like I just had. Ha!
