One thing’s for certain — if it never gets requested or mentioned, there’s very little chance it gets added to the site, unless it happens to coincide with some of our independent tastes or research.
@Spike –
You should start with requesting it via this form. You only need to request something once – they don’t disappear and I do weekly additions from this list.
Understanding when it’s reasonable to expect something to show up is pretty important. The way I triage the requests (and there are thousands) is by year; I prioritize anything released in the current year and work back from there. If you’re requesting a game from 2013 or later it will probably show up soon, but if it’s from 2007 it will be a while.
However, if you have an older game you just have to have on the site, you can always make a public plea for it! I’m pretty receptive to users asking nicely for games that are lower on the priority list! (Unless I start getting overwhelmed with them…)
I’m curious what it takes to get a game added. There are some great games I’ve played in the last few years, and a lot of them never make it on the site.
@ Stratagon, I do the same thing but on a Excel sheet
Just curious, what would be the first game that you would like to be added.
On my side, I think there is only 3 older games that I played that are not on the site (Witch of Salem, Dwarf king and Kahuna).
Yay!! Age of Ultron!!! Finally!!
I log all my plays for games that aren’t repped here on the “Smash-up Big Geeky Box” page. I started doing that during the BgDot Dark Ages when game updates were spread six months apart.
@iambfg – I don’t want to sound like I’m coming down on CAH. I own it as well, and liked it enough to buy the first 4 expansions. Lost some steam after that, but we still play it twice a year when we have 10+ people at the house and are looking for some laughter. It’s more of a humor thing to me than a game, though – we’ve played it probably 100 times, but I don’t think we’ve kept score once (most of us just throw our won cards into a used pile rather than keeping them). And you nailed it with The Game of Things – THAT’S the game I’d rather play when someone suggests CAH. We get way more crude playing that than CAH’s printed cards allow… but it was easy to get that onto the site because there’s always a PG-rated way to play it. The only downside to it compared to CAH is that it requires some level of creativity, and as the night wears on my brain cells shut down…
@ProfPlum – creating a “log a play for a game not on the site” button is an interesting idea, but I don’t have the bandwidth to attempt to think it through right now. I’ll bring it up to Jim (well, he’ll see it here!) and make a point to brainstorm on it the next time we talk. That won’t be for a few weeks, though, due to a monster project at work that’s been kicking my rear.
@Account Deletion thanks for the info.
I have no problems with Exploding Kittens being on the site, and think it should. But then again I’d also have plenty of plays of CAH logged if allowed. But as said before I get why the site doesn’t list it.
That being said…CAH is the weird thing where depending on the group, is great fun to play with the over 18 members of the family. It really comes down to personal sense of humour. Although really…there’s plenty of people who can make The Game Of Things, Say Anything, and many other party games just as bad as CAH.
Although I do agree with @ProfPlum that an option to log plays for games not on the site would be nice.
Thank you for adding Exploding Kittens.
I understand the thought of keeping everything family friendly on the site, but there are times I can’t get credit for playing games, because I am trying to be honest about what I play for the meta game. I wish there was a “played a game not on the site” option, so I could be honest and still get credit for the game play. Just my thoughts, still a great site for great feedback on games and to learn about new games without internet trolls or attacking posts.
I have heard that the Predator game is the best implementation of the Legendary game mechanics yet. I have only played Legendary a couple times and do not own any of them. This may be where I jump in.
@AD makes sense to me! As an occasional CAH player, content doesn’t offend me, I was just curious.
@iambfg, @burgerchief,
I wrestled with it for a few minutes, because the first association I have with Exploding Kittens is Cards Against Humanity as well.
What I decided was that the regular game (not the “NSFW” version) seemed to be on the same thematic level as Kittens in a Blender or Killer Bunnies, both of which are on the site. There’s no swearing or adult material beyond being awful to animals.
While keeping the site family-friendly is of the utmost importance to us (meaning CAH or the NSFW version of Exploding Kittens won’t be added, as you can’t add a link to the publisher’s page without linking to swear words – and in fact adult material worse than normal swear words), vanilla Exploding Kittens is more of a grey area where some parents may be fine playing with their 10-year-old. Or at least that’s how I judged it.
I apologize if the addition is upsetting to anybody. It was requested 5 times in the last week (although those may have all been from the same user or two), and it turns out the regular 56-card game is closer to other games already on the site than CAH.
New games- awesome! And I get to add one to my shelf! 🙂
Iambfg- I was thinking the same thing
I’m kind of surprised that Exploding Kittens was added when CAH hasn’t been. I get why CAH isn’t on the site, but is a little bit odd.
Cool, predator was one of my face movies.
They’re releasing a Predators game? Well, I know what to get my cousin for his birthday…
I love the style of the artwork for Artifacts, Inc. AEG’s Rumpelstiltskin looks like fun filler. The diminutive Grimms’ fairy tale character scared the heck out of me when I was a child…
