This Week’s Explorable Games
This round of Explorable Favorites is from BoardGaming.com member amym. The games selected from their Favorites shelf were:
- Carcassonne: Traders and Builders
Rio Grande Games | Published: 2003 - Carcassonne (iOS)
Hans im GlΓΌck Verlag, The Coding Monkeys | Published: 2010
These games will be explorable until next Monday, October 19th
Congrats Amym! Carcassonne (for android) is the game I have played the most. I haven’t tried the IOS version, but I am sure I would like it.
Really big fan of the game on the iPad. The game plays quick, and the AI tries to win. This is really nice when playing with more than one AI opponent. Instead of just trying to make the game hard for the human player, they try and score points and block other players, human or AI.
The best part is that it allows you to try out different strategies without other human players. Then, once you know how to utilize them, you can play a game with your friends and crush them to make up for losing poorly in the other 5 games you played that night!
Oh hooray!! When I logged on this morning, I had a bunch of new likes for my reviews and tips. I thought there must be a glitch in the system, because I never get that many at once! Then I saw they were for Carcassonne games, so I thought it must be the explorable this week. Then I saw my name in the comments here, looked up, and realized…oh it’s me! π haha
Carcassonne (the original) is the first game I played when I started playing games again, and also the first game I played that wasn’t one of the “regular” games (Monopoly, Sorry, Scrabble, etc.). I had Carcassonne for a few years before I started branching out and buying new games, so it got a lot of play time. My husband bought me Qwirkle (randomly- I’d never heard of it) for Christmas a couple years ago. We played that nonstop, then I somehow found this site, went on a game buying spree, and started having a monthly game night with my friends. Now I can’t remember what I used to do before I had games to play! π
Back to the point….I will always love Carcassonne, because it was teh first! Traders & Builders is one my favorite expansions mostly because it comes with the bag (makes mixing the tiles easier) and the builder. I love being able to take another turn. I almost always play with this expansion and the phantom expansion.
The iOS version is one of my favorites, because I’ve always loved Carcassonne, so when I discovered it was also an app, I bought it along with ALL the expansions available. I played it literally 10-15 times a day for the first few months that I had it. Over time I’ve discovered other board game apps that I enjoy (Alhambra, Splendor, Ghost Stories, and Small World), so I can switch it up. I play mostly at work when I’m on break, so I usually get a couple games in every day.
I also really love Carcassonne because it’s very easy to explain to newbies, and most people catch on pretty quick and usually enjoy it, so I’m able to get family and non-gaming friends to play once in awhile too.
This has really made my day! Not only did I get lots of new likes today, I got the Mask of Aegablahblah…. (not sure how that’s spelled off the top of my head) badge and explorer level 5 while “exploring” this morning! π
Thanks guys- hope I didn’t ramble too much! π
@ Hai, I like that term, ‘Live Action Member’. We haven’t had the metagame in quite a while. C’mon Amym, spill the beans.
Hurray for Carcassonne
Congrats Amym!
@Amym Congratulations on being this week’s Sacred Shelf Spotlight. As a ‘Live Action Member’ feel free to play the metagame and mention why these games make your personal faves. (I mean stuff like that used to be fun and interesting in a way and would make @BitBot happy π )
