@JAY I have to say your enthusiasm for Galaxy Defenders is infectious. I am curious why it never got a pledge from The Boy as it sounds right up his particular street. I am guessing it was competing with another big pledge at the time (I hope it was not Guardian Chronicles *blech*). I am debating on asking, but I don’t want to cause a case of Fury of Dracula Weepies.

It was interesting to note that Immersion was a Pro for you but it went hand-in-hand with the Con of length. It got me thinking how they seem to go together like Rama-lama-lama-ka-dingety-ding-ka-dong. Does immersion create length or does length create a need for immersion to make it more palatable? I most certainly don’t really feel like a cape playing Heroes Wanted. I feel like a Meeple Bopper with a VPP and that’s fine because it is only about a half hour escapade. Does anyone really feel different as The King or The Kraken in King of Tokyo? I don’t – even with Power Up. But it doesn’t matter because I’m screaming and chucking dice and it is 20 minutes of chaotic fun. Strapping on the suped go-go boots for Sentinels I feel like a cape, individualistic and immersed. As well I should, for I will be spending the next hour trading punches and catching monorails.

Interesting the symbiosis between immersion and length. Huh – oh well – that’s someone else’s turn…

I had a few bad rolls in a row which caused my untimely demise. Still didn’t scare me from playing again 🙂

Despite its similar appearance to Rampage and King of Tokyo, I like the cooperative aspect of Smash Monster Rampage. It looks like it could be worth a try.

Hmm.. I guess we’ve never faced that problem playing two players with multiple agents. Granted, the last mission is when we lost our first agent.

I’ve enjoyed my 3-4 plays of Galaxy Defenders myself but I was unfortunate to get eliminated quite early on one mission but thankfully it was on a cabin trip which allowed me to go shopping for dinner and finish a game of solo MAge Knight.

As long as you have an alternative for players eliminated…

@HarryC79 – Yes, as Hai and inmarg said, I’ll preach the word of GD. It’s a real blast. My son (10 yrs old) and I had a a TON of fun going through the campaign over vacation (we probably played 20+ hrs over 10 days). We’re probably going to try the campaign again with different options and some of the missions we skipped by succeeding others.

Ares Games just released two more expansions this past week as of this posting. The kickstarter backers are in the process of receiving their shipments. The “Elite Alien Army” expansion which came out last year allows you to increase the difficulty of the base game with harder aliens to fight by swapping them out with either the blue or green aliens in the base game. The two new expansions continue the storyline of the base game and add a whole bunch of goodies (some of which can be played with base game like fighting positions). The proper order to the new expansions is Operation Strikeback first where you’re attacking the alien base on the dark side of the moon, and then Extinction Protocol where you take the fight to the aliens home planet.

It’s very immersive, very well produced, excellent enemy AI, and somewhat intuitive gameplay. Downsides – it can be long to setup and play (sometimes 3+ hrs depending on mission) and has a lot of rules that takes a few playthroughs to get down pat (print out some reference guides on BGG). There’s a lot of support on the forums and website with extra missions and apps. I have a feeling this game is being overshadowed by the likes of Star Wars: Imperial Assault being released last year. Although the themes and gameplay are slightly different (one being coop the other isn’t), it’s hard to compete against Star Wars fandom.

This is the only game that can play long and has great theme that I can play with my son on a regular basis, so that’s big plus. The only other long game I can get to the table with my kids is Caverna, but they have to be “in the mood”.

@Account Deletion – thanks for taking the time to add the Galaxy Defenders expansions for me.

@inmarg Haha! I was just thinking the same thing. When @JAY arrives, he’ll be preaching the word of G-D

@ Harry

Just wait for Jay Atkinson to show up. If anyone can give you a full rundown of it he will be the oracle on GD.

Thanks for adding The King’s Armory and sharing it here in the news, guys. I love this site, and am really excited to be supporting each other.

I should mention that we’re working up a BGG promo campaign for 10% off pre-orders between now and GenCon, and figured we should share it with our new love: BoardGaming.com, as a thank you for listing and sharing us here.

So any pre-orders from our website (www.gatekeepergaming.com) between now and July 29th will be 10% off if you use the code: BoardGamingUsersRock – I really love this site, and you guys are the best!

We’ll also be working with BoardGaming.com to work up some TKA Avatars and such if they’ll have us. ; ) Keep an eye out for them in the coming months.

Best to you all!

Edit: If BoardGamingUsersRock doesn’t work, use BoardGamingUsersSave (ecommerce coupons can be wonky, so we made both just in case.)
