How much will be the cost of Mega Man ™ The Board Game shop?
I loved the idea of GripMat.
Totally backed War of Omens looks great fact paced ccg on the pc I am loving it
Another one I am interested in: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/532062403/spurs-a-tale-in-the-old-west
Fief looks incredible! Beautiful art, Good components, strategy, Great theme, etc… What else can a person say; except “I want a copy now!”
Ah yes, he is a french designer so they are all french! But the most recent edition appeared to be more “frenchified” where as the previous editions seemed a bit more international (from what I can gather at least).
@coltsfan76
I had gathered from the Kickstarter page that they had all been French versions. Maybe that’s where some of my confusion was coming from.
@Wade C.
Yes, it was originally released as Fief. Then Fief 2 come out. Then Fief (French version) was released again incorporating both Fief 1 and 2. This latest Fief is the one shown in the KS video and art (they even mention it is the french version).
The stretch goals they have mentioned also appear to correspond to the add-ons in the French version. So it appears that it is pretty much a reprint with possible component redesign. The rules will probably be cleaned up because the translation I linked to was a little rough.
@melpomene
I get the impression from what they’ve released that it’s the sort of game I would play a couple of times, probably with a couple of my friends who also like the video games, and then bury in the bottom of my game closet once the novelty wore off. Saying I’d play it a couple of times might even be over estimating things. Given that it’s a $70 minimum pledge to get the game ($90 if you want the stretch goals), I’d hate to see the same thing happen at some other Mega Man fan’s house. Who knows, though. Maybe it’ll be great (which I would be ecstatic about), but I don’t see much reason that I can’t wait until it hits retail and I have a chance to play it myself (or at least read some reviews of it).
@coltsfan76
Thanks for the link. I saw that there had been multiple re-releases of Fief, but since re-releases often come with revised/expanded rules, I didn’t really know what was what. I’ll take a look at that rulebook.
I also got a feeling that it was in the same ballpark as A Game of Thrones or Diplomacy, at least on the surface, which seems like a good place to start, so I’ll certainly keep an eye on it.
Fief is a reprint of a remake of a remake from 1981 (84 actual publication date). It looks to be a combination of A Game of Thrones and In the Shadow of the Empire. You can read the rules from the previous edition (which appears to be the base line for this one) here: http://www.asyncron.fr/FIEF/Regles_vWeb_en.pdf
It is the only one listed here I am interested in. Haven’t backed as another guy in our group did already. But following and considering my own copy. I like when you can level up individuals in a game, and they can do real life stuff like marry for an alliance or become an heir apparent.
Thanks Wade!
I did go read over and watch the video on Mega Man and it looks like I’ll pass. Not something that would get enough play for the cost in my mind.
@X-hawk
I looked at those too, but I wasn’t really sure if there were differences (it seemed like there were) and it seemed like there wasn’t a whole lot more to those entries than there was on Kickstarter. I have a hard time dropping $65 on a blind buy, but it sure looks interesting. It’s one to watch, for sure.
@melpomene
I love, love, love Mega Man video games, but the board game sounds a little less than exciting. The minis look like high-quality sculpts, but there aren’t very many and they push the price way up as it is. The gameplay also sounds too much like a “take that” kind of game. Each player is Mega Man on their turn and a Robot Master on everyone else’s turn, so it basically is a constantly fluctuating all vs. one game. Instead of having some players always be Robot Masters trying to impede Mega Man and the other being Mega Man trying to make progress, the constant changes and game-y need to be different characters playing different roles just so everyone gets a chance to play as Mega Man himself was really off-putting. I followed news of the game for months leading up to the launch of the Kickstarter, but once it launched and there were more details about the gameplay available, my interest dropped significantly. Just my two cents.
I hemmed and hawed about it, but I’m in for Cross Hares. It looks like something my small gaming group will enjoy.
I really need to set aside some time to read more about Mega Man. My husband loved the video games when we were younger. Probably would be a great gift for him.
Agree with Wade C. – this is the most interesting of the games listed here.
@Wade C.
Only extra info I can find is the 3 listings of this game in BGG from 1981, 1989 and 2011. Not 100% if these 3 are the same game though.
Fief looks pretty awesome. Since it’s apparently been out in France for awhile, does anyone know anything about it beyond what’s on the Kickstarter page?
