What are you playing this weekend? (Sep 12)

We got our kickstarter copy of Galaxy Defenders so we’re super excited to take it for a spin this weekend! If we have time we’ll also play some Dead of Winter… so it’s a cooperative game weekend for us.

What are you playing this weekend?

I played a lot of The Builders and Roll for It! last weekend while camping. The Builders is a lot like Splendor in a very small tin…great for travel. I’ve been thinking about getting a box and setting up a travel set I can grab at a moment’s notice. It’s fun playing games in lantern light somewhere in the mountains. Camping in the outdoors is one of my other loves…and I enjoy combining my hobbies. However, card games on the windy coast have not worked so well.

I was in the same position as you except that I was lucky and I managed to convince them to try something new. Ticket to Ride and Stone Age saved me 🙂

I got stuck playing Monopoly last weekend (yuck). I hated it when I was a kid, turns out I hate it more now. I had to make the sacrifice for some non-gamer family. If its Monopoly or nothing, next time I will choose NOTHING.

I did get a game of Caverna in this weekend. I had a blast. I was more surprised at how much my three kids enjoyed it over Agricola. They kept playing it the next day. My son who hated Agricola played two solo rounds of Caverna the next day…unheard of I say. Big hit with the family.

Will be playing Love letter. Also going to clear out a few games as I want to get some new ones. So will compile a culling list for ebaying.

stratagon – totally agree with you about Legendary Encounters. Good game play and awesome attention to theme make it fairly spectacular. The big mouse-paddish play mat sealed the deal.

@ Brodie

We have the same scale except that I only go to Cinema on cheap night so my target in below 10$/play 🙂

But on the other hand, it doesn’t matter that much because the important thing is to have fun with friends.

So tonight was a family gaming with new players. We played Blueprint, Adventurers pyramid of Horus, Ticket to ride and Stone age….The winner of the night… Ticket to ride

@Ob1 – I don’t know if it’s logical or not, but I equate if I play a game enough to make the cost per play below $20, I consider it great, because that’s what a movie night would cost.

Just played Legendary: Encounters. Fun game! I hope it becomes available on here soon, because I think I will be playing it often. My same shipment contained Ca$h and Guns: Second Edition, which I hope to play next weekend at the monthly gaming event!

Don’t see much gaming this weekend as it is 1 of 3 Wedding Weekends for Fall ‘014. (At least I don’t have to do anything aside from smile and other assorted +1 obligations.)

Still logging plays from Shore Con last weekend but did get a game of Sentinels of the Multiverse in last night. Pathfinder: Skulls and Shackles arrived the day we got back from the beach so it is just sitting in the box looking tempting. May play a starter adventure or two tomorrow to try out the characters to see who I want to be for the campaign.

@AccountDeletion *pressure* I hope you enjoy Talisman – much like Cosmic Encounter – the FFG reboots create happy nostalgia for the Y2K days of late high school/early college gaming. 🙂 My Daddy’s now sacred 2nd Edition of Talisman was held hostage and sprawled out over a basement table for an entire summer for nightly monopoly-esque marathon sessions. The basic Roll-Move-Encounter mechanic is comfy pjs and nibbled pizza crusts of simpler 90’s gaming days. Back then Talisman was THE Fanasty Game in a time when tabletops were ruled by war games and warhammers. Ahhh – good times – good ‘gateway’ times.

5 days on the road with just a carry-on so I had to go light. I bagged up Hanabi, Coloretto, Haggis and Coup.

Pathfinder has been happening every weekend for a while now. I just crossed the half-way mark in the second adventure series, so I’ve got a long way to go.

Mage Knight and Run, Fight or Die! hopefully will get some table time. I also have been playing Thunderstone Advance and Legendary Encounters: Alien lately and that trend will probably continue.

I had planned on going to a local gamer group meeting, but they moved the day and location, so more solo gaming.

I think that my game library is growing faster than my my ability to play the same game several times or as much I a want to.

Just out of curiosity, after how many plays (or $/play)of the same game do you consider that it was worth buying.

On my side I try to play each game at least 10 times but with 100$ games I’ll try to reach the 20 plays to consider it was worth buying

I wish you all a good boardgaming weekend

My twins,11 yrs old, just taught me how to play mancala. Also hoping to get in a game of Catan. Thinking of making version in which the meplees all have different roles. You can move one of them just one Space on the board but they give you special abilities. Also looking to have a dragon vs a thief. The dragon burns all the cards that you have of the tile that he lands on.

Will try to make time for some PACG: Skull and Shackles, getting my second pair through the intro adventure. Also played my first game of Eldritch Horro two days ago, and next week we’ll start playing Pathfinder: Jade Regent with me as GM. Going to be great!

I am going to try to learn Dungeon Petz and maybe even get Eldritch Horror a spin if I find the time and people to play 🙂

Heading to Spielbound Cafe in Omaha to play some games I have never tried. If I can find someone willing to kill a few hours, I would love to try Twilight Struggle.

The kids and I are likely to play some more bland fare. My daughter got some Frozen-themed games for her 6th birthday Wednesday. A Frozen version of Trouble, a Candy Land/Chutes and Ladders hybrid of some sort and a 6-in-one Target exclusive thing, in which I am certain only Memory will be playable without much wincing.

My siblings visited these horrors upon me, and they knew exactly what they were doing.

This weekend is more of an RPG weekend. Sunday is Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, Pathfinder ACG, possibly a filler or two. Not sure which ones though.

@AccountDeletion Talisman is a great game. Got all the expansions for it, but the game is played not that often due to length of it and people’s schedules. But its a nice one as we to flub the max players quite a bit on it and have big groups of us just sitting around playing it. More like hanging out with the game being secondary.

We’re planning on playing Talisman for the first time tonight. It’s been near the top of my wishlist since @Hai said some nice things about it when she was our “Explorable” back in June.

If I get to play another “first time” game this weekend, it will likely be Tzolk’in – but if that’s too much rulebook reading for one weekend we’ll probably play some Terra Mystica or Kings of Air and Steam.

I also have to make some progress on painting Sentinel Tactics miniatures. A month in and I’ve only finished Legacy and Bunker.
