We have a pretty heavy slate this weekend: another round of Eclipse with Rise of the Ancients, Chez Geek with Slack to the Future, and Looney Labs’ upcoming Batman Fluxx are definites; we’ll also get to several from a pool of Green Deal, Amber Route, Transylvania, PACG: Wrath of the Righteous and Munchkin Panic.
What are you playing this weekend?
@Akden Anything drool worthy?
@Bobb33z3r Welcome back 🙂
I also just arrived back from Gen Con, and although I agree it was crowded, I didn’t think it smelled that bad! Perhaps my olfactory senses were dulled by the onslaught…
While there, I played multiple games of Heroscape, along with Mysterium, Fortune and Glory, Apocalypse Chaos, Legendary Encounters: Predator, Dark Seas, Smash Up, and at least several more that I can’t remember. I also spent way too much money on games. 🙂 It was a blast.
Played Power Grid in Brazil and won with 18 cities in a 4 player game!! Also played Drakon, a short but fun game!
Samurai (2 games), X-Wing (3 games) and Attika.
@ Stratagon
I bow to you. You created the true experience. Almost like winning the weekend.
We had our own little GenCan’t convention. We played at least one game every day, from Thursday through Sunday, went to the game store and perused all the games we wanted to buy, and bought some. We played several games of Alien Frontiers since we got the expansion pack and now everyone could play. Also on the list were Munchkin Pathfinders (which my eldest son went to the game store and bought himself!!) which was more fun than I expected, and 7 Wonders. Really wanted to play Lords of Waterdeep or Dead of Winter, but we just ran out of time.
Exploding Kittens arrived! We picked it up at my girlfriend’s request — she is the target audience for cats, explosions, and The Oatmeal.
Exploding Kittens is a gotcha-heavy Russian Roulette. Each turn ends with the player drawing a card, hoping that it is not a dreaded Exploding Kitten. Just one EK and you are out of the game. Thankfully, the other cards all work towards avoiding this fate — possibilities include peeking at the top three cards of the deck, shuffling the deck, stealing a card from another player, and so on. These cards stay in your hand until you decide to play them. You can play as many cards from your hand as you like before you move on to the Draw step to end your turn, so you might say “I’m going to peek at the top three cards — oh, that’s no good. I’ll shuffle the deck now.”
It took all of a few seconds to set up and teach, and we had finished the game within about 15 minutes. As somebody who isn’t generally into party games, it was perfectly playable and even fun.
@Doc Oh but on the contrary, I wrote a check for a really expensive box to trap myself in. I walked to pick it up, and didn’t bathe for a week. In between games and pics for GenCant, I would lock myself in the cramped box. I believe I covered most of the experiences you mentioned. But, alas, I think that next year I shall skip GenCant and suffer at GenCon instead.
@Doc Haha! Well played Sir – bragging rights are yours 🙂
Rounding out this weekend with Pandemic, Star Realms, Core Worlds, Freedom: The Underground Railroad, and Caverna: The Cave Farmers for GenCantSoloCon. Also, played LOTS of Splendor and Sushi Go with the kids.
@ Rob Harper, Hai & Stratagon
Just got back from GenCon. Sounds like you are having a blast with GenCant, but you just can’t get the full experience without the pushing and shoving, poorly ventilated rooms and hallways, unpleasant olfactory assaults, miles of exercise going to events and canvassing the exhibit hall, and seeing a noticible dent in your checking account. I know you’re jealous. Better luck next year.
Returned home after a two week vacation with a girl I’m uncle for along who enjoys gaming so Saturday was an evening filled with Saboteur 2, Splendor and a round of Hanabi.
Yesterday I played a Japanese game called Hatari which was light a nd relatively quick and we worked our way through some of the games in box o’ games which is a small box of games each of which is slightly larger than a pack of chewing gum. There are 7 in the box and we went through 3 of them. The main game was my first time on a new kickstarter I recently got called Warband. I like the game so far, but need some more plays to make sure I,ve got the rules down.
I’m too busy posting #GenCantPics on Twitter (https://twitter.com/stratagon) to play any games. Hop over and follow, favorite and retweet if you get a chance! Tell me who you are and join in the fun!
Got in a game of Patchwork so far today. Got Cross Hares out and learned it and played a couple of games too. Really loved the theme of the game.
Vacation gaming with the family! I played Forbidden island for the first time, really enjoyed that. Also played quite a bit of Machi Koro, and since we are traveling, Star Realms has been played a few times due to its portability.
I’m helping with a #GenCant event at my local so who knows what or if anything shall be played. Received Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn this week from Plaid Hat as a pre-Genny surprise – looks like it might just sit in the box looking pretty.
For those #GenCant curious – here’s a link to what everybody cares about The Contest Page
http://www.gencant.com/category/contest/
Raffle: A path of least resistance to a chance of winning free gamaeage. Six clicks or ao and done. (And pretty much everyone I told about #GenCant last year won the raffle while I didn’t – so you have that going for you.)
Photo Contest: Last year’s spontaneous generation focused on sardonic parodies of ConLife – this year it appears anything goes with babies holding meeples, pets staring at games, mostly just general gaming snapshots and a rather interesting picture of Casual Friday @Stratagon. A devolution into #Tabletopday MAch II or hashtag PrettyMuchEveryWeekendontheInternet? Oh well – PRIZES!
SoloCon: I don’t know much about it – but it certainly is running popular with all the challenges and game logging. Solo gaming represent!
Boardgame Habitat Although for some reason not sanctioned by the #GenCant muckities @Artem and Docking Bay 94 are running a creative contest for Boardgame Habitat. Some lovely pictures for the Cardboard Mantelpiece

Whether #GenCon or #GenCant – Happy Gaming!
(Psssst…I am really surprised no one has chimed in with GenCon bragging rights! 🙂 )
Wow, it feels like years since I’ve played Mice and Mystics, so I’m thinking of taking on the next chapter or two…. Or three….. I miss my mice. So yeah, It’s gonna be a cheesy weekend…
Trying to keep my wife and friends alive in zombicide.
@gregoryjaylee: BSG has fast become one of my faves (my wife and I binge-watched the show a few years ago, so yes, I’m crushing on the theme) and that you scored it for half off is a steal.
@bobb33z3r: Kids of Carcassonne is still a hit with my wee ones and just introduced it to another kid.
