Every couple of weeks we’ll be featuring games for exploration that share a common trait – a mechanic, theme, publisher, designer, etc. (and we’ll still be selecting from users’ favorites shelves on occasion!) There is no set number of games that will be featured, but we’ll try to incorporate a mix of old favorites and new titles where possible.
This week we invite you to explore games with a common theme: TREASURE!

This Week’s Explorable Games
- Catacombs (2ed)
Elzra Corp. | Published: 2015 - Tikal II
Asmodee, GameWorks | Published: 2010 - Lost Cities: The Card Game
Kosmos, Rio Grande Games | Published: 1999
These games will be explorable until Monday, August 22nd
I enjoy Lost Cities. Even though it is not particularly thematic to me, it is a fun, tense game.
I do not like these games very much.
@Tom, Tikal, and the sequel are very different games. The theme is just a sequel. Instead of finding a bunch of different temple as in the first, the second has you doing deep exploration of a single temple. I really enjoy the sequel, whereas I was only so-so in the original (Java was my favorite of the original mask trilogy.)
I didn’t know there was a Tikal II, but I love the jade colored mask on the cover of the original. Has anyone played both, and if so, how do they differ?
Fixed the Game Tips link for Tikal II (thanks, Andy) — apparently a very old mis-link.
Andy, thank you so much! That did it for me til the link is fixed.
There is a game tips page for Tikal II, but as noted, the main button for it links somewhere else. No tips yet, but if anyone wants to add some, you can do it here:

Oops, cant add game tips to Tikal II.
Love exploring by theme!! Great idea!
awesome! exploring by themes is a great idea!
This is great! Much like the old Halloween explorables, I really like learning about games that tackle a theme in different ways.
Great way to present the explorable games. Thanks for all the hard work you put into the site!
Also, is it my imagination, or have the ghosts gone away?
Brilliant idea!
Lots more fun looking at games I might have some interest in.
Great to see the Explorable Games are back. Looking forward to checking out some games that I might have missed otherwise.
Great idea! Happy to have this back.
Great idea! Keeps the focus on the games.
Welcome back explorables! Thanks @AD and to all those keeping this site enjoyable. It is nice to have three, themed titles to explore this week.
Great idea! You’ll have to do a Lovecraft exploration next!
Nice mix!
